How many Turn Based Games Can 1p join ?

Post by Stash »

This question has a few parts. 1: is 360 turn based games the most anybody has ever seen anybody "play" at one time ? is there a limit?
2: How common is it for players to have 100+, 200+ , games they are expected at?
3: If there are many " players" joining so many games & not finishing them would this affect the integrity of BGA eventually
4: Have others noticed many players in tourneys who may only play 1st or 2nd round if at all ?
I guess they count on the fact that everybody who has been waiting for them to start, has moved on to the next game by the time the game is abandoned, & therefore regularly avoid a red flag.
I know I'm usually reluctant to red flag for time, but I'll be less reluctant in future at turn based games in arena & multi player tournaments.

I am glad that you have raised this subject.

I play in a couple of tournaments each day and there is a player who regularly joins and then either does not play or makes only a couple of moves. This wastes other players' time and a place in a tournament.

A red thumb, skipping the player's turn and penalties have no bearing.

A couple of players have written to this individual; however, with no joy. I have emailed BGA regarding this matter and they are "checking".

At present this player is participating in 345 turn-based games and has 3750 penalties on 4268 games.

I personally think that if a player reaches a certain number of penalties, then that player should be restricted from joining any further tournaments for a period of time.

There's no true upper limit for how many turn based games you can join. Each individual is limited to the amount of completed turn-based games they've completed (with a low limit to start with that I don't remember)

You also can't start a new one if you're overtime in an existing one.

Tournaments may be an exception to both of these rules, as those will create new games for you.
If you need to avoid certain players, the tournament creator needs to put in reputation restrictions, they exist for a reason.

I think I saw someone with 400+ going on at once last year - they don't have nearly that many going on at the moment though.

I personally get around half to two thirds of my ongoing game expecting me each morning, but how many you're expected at at any stage depends on a multitude of factors including how many you're playing.

This is simply not working. Players only lose 4 karma for dropping from a tournament game, so they can ruin a dozen tournaments a day and still have 100 karma if they play sufficient games in between.

Well said ExpendableEnsign.

Furthermore, a tournament creator should be able to Expel any player who is a nuisance.

thanks for all responses so far, I can only agree with all comments,

An update on a current game involving the player, of 360+ games.
After me posting my suspicions on said player, & hoping I was wrong & hoping that he would prove me wrong, in the game chat,
with only hours left after waiting 3days for his move he made a move. Hooray !
Sometimes it's good to be wrong. but lets see if he can complete the game, I have my doubts, but I've been wrong once it could happen again.
I will update game outcome. & if he engages with the chat, for any who might be interested.

Then they're not causing enough of a problem.

More red thumbs saying everyone should avoid that player, they'll be limited in the amount of karma they have. (Well unless they also manage to pick up green thumbs with that play style/real time games.

The problem here is not with regard to Karma or the number of games/tournaments a player joins.

The issue is with players who register for tournaments and then either do not play, only make a couple of moves or keep other players waiting for ages.

"The effect of a red thumb is:
This player won't be able to play with you anymore (except if you meet in a tournament)".

Sadly it's too true, Countess, red thumbs are a complete waste of time when it comes to tourneys, they're not even an option at the end of some, maybe all tourney multi-player games. & would have no effect on meeting red thumbed player in a tourney.!

As for an update on the game progress, as predicted our 360game hero, let his time run out, after waiting another 6 or 8 hours I skipped the player out of time, only to find there he was as at the table as a spectator! Why he hadn't make a move? Beyond my understanding. & I'm left thinking again ,

" How many other players have a similar attitude to commitment to play the games they've already agreed to play ? "

The problem may not be the number of games a player joins, but does their ability to join so many games exacerbate the problem?
The number of games would I thought be the simplest place to look at in a regulatory way?
But perhaps it's not that simple.

Even a limit on number of games for non-premium members might have a positive effect on this issue, as I've not seen a premium membership involved in this abuse of privilege, & complete disregard for agreements made with tourneys & all the other players who have mutuality agreed to PLAY all games in tourney.

Hello Stash

Thank you for the update.

I am not surprised by the way this player has behaved. There are so many players just like this one.

This is an issue that BGA really does need to address. The current penalty system is neither use nor ornament.
