Specific options for true beginner player

Post by Mistergos »

Hi all

I am currently developping Super Fantasy Brawl. To be very quick, first part of the game is a champions draft, second part is a fight.

For very beginners, we would like to skip the draft and go straigth to the fight with preselected team. To do so i a added a game option draft with 'no draft' choice which is the default one. Everything works fine for the first game. But how to "force" people to play with 'draft' options for their second games?

Is there any process that allows some sort of tutorial that does not required the player to go in the options when is done with tutorial?

Why would you want to force them ? Game option is the real answer, just add a description and tmdisplay to make it clear that the table is setup for beginners.

I think Mistergos wants to know if it's possible for the game to detect if all players are beginners... and then skip the draft part of the game.

perhaps you could also allow that mode only for non ELO games ? if you can detect it of course....

Yeah I get it but why "force" players ? I mean if they want to play a second game without the draft, who are you to decide they can't do that ?

It is more than a lot of players do not see the different options.
So sticking to "no draft" option means they do not see that they can change their champions.

I don't know if what you want to achieve is possible.

But what makes you think many players don't see game options ? I'm really not sure that's true. Anyway, many games have this kind of beginner mode (eg. Terra Mystica, Santorini, Seasons, Through the Ages...). The generic behaviour seems to be a game option, selected by default and with a label that explicitely tells you this is an incomplete or beginner-friendly version of the game.

Yes just make option "begginer - no draft" but don't have it default, make the "full game" the default one
