Too fast for me or no patience at all ?

Post by T0p0Gigi0 »

I've had a couple of bad experiences while trying to learn this game. Of course I need more time then others to read the cards and know the interations. Of course I need time to look what they are playing because sometimes even a war declared agaisnt you goes unnoticed. This takes time . But it has happened a few times that I end up being kicked out by very experienced players because I don't play fast enough for them. Maybe they forgot that they were slow before being fast. Or maybe they practiced on the app to play alone which I didn't. Anyway I find very little patience for new players in this community. This is a game that takes a good 6 hours in real life and I like to think over my strategies like I would be when playing it in real life. But finding players is hard enough, and find players with a little patience even harder. Seems like they want you to make errors by forcing you to play faster and faster. Maybe I should just play something else.

First, I note that your games are usually using the Standard time. When you set up a table (or in your preferences if you use automatic), put the Slow time and it should help avoiding impatient players.

Alternatively, assuming your time schedule is compatible, I'd advise you to try turn-base mode and play games over multiple weeks until you know the cards well enough. You can start multiple of them in parallel. [And if you have problems joining games because of karma, you should try some short simple games on BGA to build back up your karma +1 per game]

TtA, once you remove all the "administrative" part of moving all the cubes around, is not that long of a game. BGA indicates less than an hour in average, and two player games are usually around 40min. As such, it would not surprise me if some players you encountered were playing during their lunch break or other situations where they have time constraints IRL.

I do agree that you should attempt to find tables that play with the slow time settings.

There is nothing wrong with having a preference for slower games, just as there is nothing wrong with preferring faster games. This site gives players to the tools to find the timer settings they are comfortable with.

Given that, there is an expectation that if you join a game that you will play within that time speed. I know sometimes I have pretty firm time limits myself, and feel comfortable joining a game because I know it can only go so long. Consistently abusing your clock by going over is likely to get you booted at most tables I am at also.

I also don't think most of these players are attempting to force you in to making errors by playing faster, they just have a preference for quicker timer settings. It doesn't need to be a nefarious motivation.
