I don't feel like i try to obscure anything.
I just didn't understand why you said i was asking anyone to change, when i didn't feel that I was doing it.

And I also don't think it is ok to ask others to change, just so they come closer to your set of opinions.

If you reread the whole thread, you will see that apart from the OP, only me and another person were supporting his concern.
But at no point, did I ask anyone to stop doing it, or insulted the ones who excessively abbreviate.
I just said that saying GG in ANY SITUATION (expelling, ruining of a game, beating someone really bad then saying gg), feels shallow and incorrect to me.
Then I presented some concrete examples, like the US Open match of Novak Đoković (in reply to someone's sports comparison), and so on.
While you and some other people, came with the suggestion to "change our mindsight", or called the debate "st*p*d" or "si**y" (a direct insult to the Original Poster, in my opinion), called us "pa*anoid" and so on.

I interpret it just as a polite handshake, as in chess. Since I can't physically do that, gg stands as widely known and understood symbol.

Likewise, if an opponent actively refused (not just disinterestedly missed it) to handshake, or to voice it, I would interpret that they were pissed by the game or by me.

But it is a symbol that can have many interpretations, as the op's literal understanding. By the letter, a good game is not one where you're completely destroyed (beyond merely loosing, as can happen that one can loose and it still be a satisfying match).

So, thinking about the literal interpretation, it does feel a little awkward to say gg to someone who lost, but this is the language symbol recognized for politeness. Using it may not have too great of a consequence, but purposefully avoiding* it have.

* Which, again, I differentiate from not saying because someone just finds it meaningless, because what I'm mentioning in the above paragraph does have an intended meaning.

About typing the abbreviation, well, some of us are in the phone, and it can take some time. There's no innerent meaning or value in using an abbreviation, even if the whole message may feel more personal. I see it as just a language shortcut.

Are you under the mistaken impression that one simply counts the number of characters in a response and that determines the merits of the comment? I never called anyone stupid, silly, or paranoid, nor did I endorse those views. Stop lumping me in with those who did.

I did agree that those who take offense to a perfunctory expression that is made when a game is over and it is time that we move on with our lives could use a mindset adjustment. You don't agree with that, and I accept your decision not to.

I said this years ago. Many people disagreed and attacked my personality. They called me sensitive and said I get offended too easily, lol.

Like others said, it seems robotic and impersonal. Your closing remarks should be based on the context of the game - not every game is a good game.

I agree 100% with the OP.
I don’t get why I‘d have to appreciate it just because someone is too lazy to type „thanks for the game“ instead of „gg“.

And it‘s not about walking away without saying anything, but how „gg“ specifically can be inappropriate depending on the circumstances, and that something else would work better.

I’ve gone back and forth on “gg“, but if we are willing to normalize “good game” to an acronym, I wonder why we can’t all start typing “tftg”. Hmm. I might try that.

I sometimes say GG. I don't mean it like, 'Ha! I won!' or 'I'm too lazy or unkind to put Good Day or Nice Playing With You '. I just think it's a term of politeness that I take to mean as, 'Fun game, I hope you enjoyed it. Wanna play again?' I feel like you guys are kinda overreacting about two letters someone put in the chat. If it bothers you so much, ignore it. I'm sure nobody means it like the first example. \' _ '/. Something that does annoy me is when someone comes in and says, 'Hey boys!' or something similar. This is gender assumption and misgendering. Yeah.

Especially for 2 players: If your opponent wants to see a good game after a loss just wait until he 'gg' first. Its really that easy.
