The achievements we have now are so general and generic. Achieve a certain rating, play X games, get X wins. Same for every game. I think it would be really cool to have game-specific achievements for each game.
For example, in 7 wonders, there could be an achievement for having three complete science sets. An achievement for building 5 guild cards in a game. An achievement for having 40+ coins at once.
In Puerto Rico, an achievement for producing every kind of crop. An achievement for having every available barrel of a type in your inventory. An achievement for shipping 10 barrels in a single shipping phase.
I think it would be a lot of fun to go for these sorts of things. At the same time though, I can see why these achievements might be an issue. If you act specifically to get an achievement, you are probably not making the optical moves to win the game. For example, getting 40 coins in 7 wonders is probably doable... but you'd probably lose if you pursued it. You'd get a lot of players clowning around to get those achievements, and if many people are playing poorly, it may be hard to get a really good game going. Some people may leave BGA for lack of adequate competition.
Perhaps this could be mitigated by making achievements like "WIN a game of 7 wonders with 30+ coins." Or maybe make it so these achievements are only obtainable in training mode?
What do you guys think about this idea? Would there be any downsides to it? If so, how could they be mitigated? Any ideas for some achievements for popular games?
