My family does this to keep the game from taking several hours once you get a few expansions in it.
Would be nice to have an option to play the game with only half the tiles from base game and expansions, so you can still have expansions but also a shorter game. We divide the tile stacks of each expansion in half, and then set them aside without looking at them. This does a couple of things, it shortens the game which can be nice, but it also makes you unsure how many of each tile there is. Suddenly the commodities are uncertain because sure, normally there is 5 silk but what if there's only 2 this time?
Maybe instead of choosing all tiles or half you could set an amount of tiles and it would randomly include tiles from all selected expansions until it hits that limit, Hence you could have a 50, 75, or 100 tiles game so you can manage game length a little bit better for real time play.
