Hence why I said "in my arena games", asked if there were any thoughts about it, and stated that maybe the current set up to only be able to play your longest waited turn first was their implementation to curb this.

My post is anecdotal, and I'm asking if it's a common thing or not. Your anecdote suggests the opposite of mine, which is why I asked the question.

Some reminder: At the end of a season, for turn based games that did not "finish in time", the player who consumed the most time will lose the game (all the opponents will be winners).

At the end of Season 3, we stopped all turn-based games in progress, and a lot of you were frustrated by this. For the end of Season 4, we did things differently:
  • The rule remains the same: player who consumed the most time during the whole game (= player who is the most reponsible of the delay) is losing the game, and his/her Arena rank will be modified accordingly.
  • However, the game itself can continue in training mode. It means that you can finish the game if you want to, or leave it without penalty if you don't want to.
Thanks to the players who suggested this solution that we found to be the best compromise.
Thank you so much for this! Much appreciated!

How can we tell, though, who won or lost those games?

No, no, no.

This is not good. I was #1 in Arena for Tablut for pretty much the entire season, and I know I learn that the person in 3rd spot suddenly ends a bunch of games and jumps over me right at the last second!! This is impossible to predict and plan for.

And it looks like they had a bunch of Arena tables playing in a lot of different games and this last minute 'time' win on open tables means a certain climb in rankings and gaining higher finishing positions than deserved......

I can't see how this is fair.
NEW TACTIC: end of season open as many arena tables as possible.....

I hope you made improvements to Arena points and matching algorythms. Current system hugely discourages playing by the top players... We're all in the elite league, so there are NO *bad* players around. Even if differences in skill were 90:10, the luck element means one in five games will be impossible to win against even a moderate player. Hence, playing against a player with a large ELO difference, one risks 36 points to gain 4, and it's just not worth it because high-ELO-difference matches are just too common. I've been second and third in Race 4 G, but only because I refrained from playing once I attained the status and the ELO differences in matches became large (I'm not sour grapes - my current R4G ELO is 630, ranking 4th overall).

What's worse is that ElerCant won his games by beating the same two friends repeatedly to get that ranking as well.

There's a bug report here to get that sort of behaviour restricted: https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=38062

I just noticed the same thing. And not just beating them,, but winning by conceding games...this is the definition of king making

The issue is you can only report someone for kingmaking if you've played them - and since he only plays against his "friend" it's impossible to report them for it.

I would love to see the 12 trophies ElerCant won this way stripped from him.

This very well could be someone with multiple accounts. Their friend NyaTim was helped to world ELO champ in Yokai by playing the same group of people multiple times and somehow perfectly winning each time. Another friend Vya_ka boosted Bandido too. And another named Lyu_kaz in Schrodinger's Cats.....very sus
