Real Time Tournament No Shows

Post by StoryTime »

I've noticed that around half or more of the people in real time tournaments don't show for the first round. I would like to propose that missing a real time tournament table is treated like a leave, and has an effect on reputation. It is sad to see people taking spots in a RT tournament if they don't feel it is worth being available.

Thanks!

A penalty is fine, but don't know if it would substantially help things. Adding a check-in system to real time tournaments would be a better solution. Say 15 minutes before a tournament starts you have to check-in, then anyone who doesn't check-in isn't part of the tournament. This will reduce the field but would eliminate all the first round no shows. You could even add a wait list (for full tournaments) so people can take the spot of no shows.

Good ideas also!

Or even an in game banner. It doesn't show on the screen of a live game other than in the feed, which may get overlooked.

As long as these tournaments start by a timer there will be these issues. The simple solution is to give control of the tournament to the tournament creator. Instead of the event starting by a timer, it would be better if the creator had a "start" button, and every other player hit "accept" just like we do when creating regular tables.

This way, when it's time to start the tournament but you are a player short, you can wait a minute until you get another player. This is only for real time tournaments, as turn based does not require everyone to be ready to start at the same time.

I have played in about a dozen swiss tournaments for 6 nimmt. Really about 30 if you count all the times we all abandoned all the rounds of the tournament for 1/2 hour while trying to create a new tournament and get everyone signed in at the perfect moment...and then 1 player was 10 seconds late again....wish we had some control.

THIS. I would participate in real time play, but what if something happens? What if I need to cancel due to last minute scheduling changes? I'd rather it be based on the check-in system. It also needs to be made much easier to figure out which tournaments one is enrolled in. I should be able to see all my tournaments without having to search through the tournament listings.

This is my suggestion, it can really help. Please vote for it (green thumb)

I organize real-time tournaments and this way I am sure I would be able to spot who is not going to be there or double check he/she will.
