Hello Iwari player!
First I have to thank you all for trying out my first game implementation here on BGA and for all the feedback you've given me so far. I hope you all enjoy the game as much as I do. If not, then please don't hesitate to tell me why and what you dislike so I could possibly try to fix it. Other suggestions are also welcome if you have some.
The main issues people had with Iwari were:
- Bad visibility of tents in territories with the same color (e.g. yellow tent on yellow territory)
- Not knowing how to place 2 pieces
I deployed a first update to the game today which tries to fix these issues. So if you find yourself in the group of people that suffered from one of the two points above, please tell me if it's better now.
Let me shortly explain what I did.
1) Bad visibility
In the game menu, you can now enable a "High contrast" mode. It's not really much, but it might do the trick.
2) How to place 2 pieces
I designed the game in a way that you have to select all the cards you want to play before placing any of your pieces. If you're happy with your move, you confirm it and replenish your cards. If you're not happy or simply misclicked, you restart your turn and try something different.
Now quite a few people just played one single card, placed a tent, confirmed the move and wondered why they couldn't place a second tent although they had another card of the same color or 2 matching cards of a different color.
The change I made now is that when you do that (placing just one piece) the other places where you could place a second piece stay (or get) highlighted as if you had played the required cards from the start. You can now just click on one of these and place your second piece. The appropriate cards will automatically move from your hand to the "played cards" area.
A side note to "wildcards": Some people asked if for example 2 yellow cards could also be used as a wildcard for yellow. My implementation does not allow that, and this is according to the rules. I confirmed that with the author of the game today. So in most cases it's a bad idea to have 3 cards of the same color - except you play a 2-player-game with the third tribe where it might be useful. But having three different colors is even worse. So try to always have one wild card at hand.
For all the people who read so far - congratulations!
I also fixed one bug that occured when you discarded a card after the last round had already be announced.
What I planned to also implement:
- A result table at the end (I learned that my nice statistics are only visible for premium users ...)
- A highlighting of the pieces each player played in the last round
Now have fun playing more Iwari. If you're short of players, just invite me to your game.
