Hi folks,
I have played 500 games in the past 5 weeks, reconnected with some old favorites, learned a few new great ones, so needless to say - I just love this site (and so far have brought 5 more new users to the tables).
One thing, though, is outstandingly poor compared to the overall great standards of BGA - the tournaments that are in non-real time (or roundbased).
In late March, I had a bit of time on my hands and joined "6 Nimmt Stampede March" with 160 players that promised to take maximum 10 days.
A bad mistake.
For those of you who don't know 6 Nimmt: It's a fun, very light tactical card game that takes about 10 minutes to play.
Today we have started Round 4/6. Yes, you are reading correctly. What should have taken 30-40 Minutes in the real world, took us 1 full month, so far. BGA has me trapped. I did not commit my time to log in to this "tournament" for months. I decide when to play, not BGA.
The worst part is: actually this tournament is not really happening: 49 of the 96 tables that have been played so far were annulled because of time-out of a player. Meaning: instead that the best player got 8 points, everyone got 5 (except for the time-outed).
My main conclusion for this problem is obvious:
- Allow players to leave and to be kicked from tournaments. Do not drag dead bodies from round to round
Minor ideas include:
- Do not put people at the same table that have 5+ hours time difference
- Eliminate roundbased tournaments
- Force players to endure a couple of round based games before allowing entrance to a "tournament"
- Be transparent in the description that the "tournament" will last 60 days and not 10
Thank you for reading and as a quick reminder: I still love BGA.
