Incognito ARENA ?

Post by Ze Monstah »

Hi. I would have a proposition... Would it be possible or wise to play arena mode, incognito, from now on?

For games of 3 and above, i mean.

For instance, no username, no ranking/elo, and also, no nationality, and no PM-ing during games.

And even the game chat.. there are only a few games where the game chat is necessary for game purposes, and also... not having the game chat would greatly lower the reports the moderators get.

So only "user/player 1", "user/player 2, 3, 4...", etc.

It is a bit tiresome to play some games like Love Letter (and many more), and when you are tied with some players of same Nationality (flag on profile and next to username on game page), to always (when i say ALWAYS, i mean ALWAYS) be the default target.

One might basically have 0 chance in such games, if (s)he doesn't share a certain nationality with others.

I am not saying everyone plays like this, but I noticed it is a common (perhaps subconscious) practice and it feels a bit... unfair on a long run.

There is tension between these two statements.

That aside, an incognito mode is an Interesting concept. One thing that would be missing, however, is that after repeated games with the same person you may get a read on how they play, which can be an advantage in some games. Some people may not want to give that up.

There is no tension; you simply didn't understand; it's cool, it happens...
I meant "always" - in my games, and i said "there might be people who don't play like this" - in general on BGA, meaning games which don't have me as player. :)
Thanks for commenting, though.

That aside, yes... the argument you brought is the only disadvantage i could think of, for the incognito mode.
But i find the advantages far better: no kingmaking, no reports, no nothing.

(1) That is an incredibly arrogant and condescending statement.

You redefined a word with a commonly accepted meaning to apply only to an idiosyncratic case (your games), and then you faulted me for purportedly not understanding. See (1).

Please mind your language, and I don't know... I think you could have chosen to understand how I later explained, from a first reading.

I will explain again: I said "always" but didn't specify "always (in MY GAMES)" - I was thinking about my games, but didn't specify that in wording, thinking it was obvious; then I said "I'm not saying everyone plays like this", meaning other players... in other games, other tables, etc. that I am not participating in; I don't know what is so difficult to understand.

That tension comment and the way you wrote it, were highly unrequired (in my opinion), especially since the focus should have been on the general idea I presented, an idea which you found... "interesting" :)
I will say "my bad" for not specifying "always IN MY GAMES", compared to "OTHER PLAYERS on BGA, who I have not played with, in ARENA", in order to not prolong this semantics discussion.
So I am sorry for making the post a bit vague regarding the wording (and if you felt attacked with arrogance and/or condescension); I still think that was not the aspect one should focus on. :(

And thanks again for your opinion, it is extremely appreciated. :)

Back to the idea, too bad for the downside: the fact people want to play against others in a specific way, based on their history. :(
Other than that... I really think INCOGNITO would solve a lot of issues (for both players AND BGA...), and my view is also shared by some 7 Wonders players, from what I've heard.

I think Incognito mode in Arena is a very good idea. See my post re. players unfairly blocking strong opponents to avoid a game they might lose. I think Incognito Arena would solve that problem.

No, it would not solve that problem, because that is not a problem...

The identity of the players would be incognito, but if A and B are red thumbed (each other), they would still not be able to play together an ARENA game. Which is what they (or 1 of them) wish(es)...

I was analysing a series of advantages versus disadvantages of INCOGNITO ARENA.
I think the advantages are far more; don't understand why players didn't think of this in a bigger number.
