How to overcome this message?

Post by Zazou99 »

Hi.

I would like to play a solo game of Hardback. I have enabled Training mode, chosen 1 player, cooperative in "cooperative anthology", game language is set to "no preference".

I get the error message "Unexpected error: This game is language dependent. You cannot restrict this table to a language not supported by the game."

I have tried to set game languange to English, but the message persists.

Can anyone point me to a working setup?

Thanks a lot for your help, Marius

I managed to find a cure. In my language profile, the spoken languages were French, English, German. After having removed French and German, the game started. I don't know to what degree I should report this behavior as a bug.

I am glad you found a solution. I agree this sounds like a bug in the BGA main website. The language restriction is managed by BGA itself before the game launches, and is independent of any specific game.

I see someone has already created a bug report, which you may upvote here:

As another data point, I have several languages listed but have never had any issues. Perhaps it's only checking your primary language.

There are 2 language restrictions.
- a generic one that has been here a long time (added for werewolves) in the advanced options for automatic mode, under the restrict table access link in manual mode, that applies to all games for players who want a table where everyone can understand each other
- a language dependency option that has been here around 6 months (added for concept) in the game options for games that can be played only in a subset of languages by construction.

What's discussed here looks like these two were conflicting. Probably a preference had been set for French or German for the first one, while Hardback language dependency allows only English. Then removing from the profile French and German solved it because we cross the preferences with the profile languages before setting them to make sure it's consistent. In principle, changing one restriction should synchronize the other, so if there is a glitch to report, what would be useful to know would be how they have been made desynchronized (and also, if you are using the automatic lobby or the manual lobby: it's really hard to know what circumstances we are talking about otherwise).
