Tournaments are broken

Post by Tmcgaughey84 »

I just want to start by saying that I love the tournament system on here for board games! when i first got started with them i was hooked! All i wanted to do day and night was play BGA tournaments... However now that i a seasoned Tournament Enthusiast i am starting to see holes in the system.

I Believe that the system is semi broken and can be fixed with a simple option upon tournament creating. Each tournament needs an option to make each tournament visible or to restrict patrons + or - up to 2 or 3 hours away.

Right now i am in a game with a person from Germany and person from Belgium.... i am -22Hours behind because while i sleep they wait for me to make my turn.... it is frustrating for me seeing that -22 because i know i am doing all that i can to make my turn and im am sure that its frustrating for them because they are waiting on me...

I hope this is the right place for this and if not maybe this will make it to the eyes of the the right people because for once i would like to participate in a tournament that is'nt hindered by this flaw.

Thanks for reading

there is an option for tournaments to only run the clock in a prescribed 12 hour window. this allows for fast paced tournaments but for people to still sleep at night.

a lot of the current high speed tournaments only work for players that are online the vast majority of the time...for 3+ player you basically need a time where all players are online at once to make some moves in near real time. If not everybody's play time overlaps and someone is always sleeping then it becomes impossible to finish these games.

Most tournaments are very fast paced, so if you like to sleep at night they probably aren't quite right for you. :-(

This only applies if you happen to live in the same time zone as the tournament creator. So many tournaments have their 12 hour window while I am mainly asleep!

Also apparently to set the playing hours the tournament creator needs to manually convert the time zone from the French time zone to theirs (if it’s different) and there are no instructions letting tournament creators know this is the case. I created several tournaments with incorrect playing hours until posting in this forum and learning about that setting/bug. At the very least it would be nice for tournament creators to be able to set the playing hours to their time zone without needing this “inside knowledge” as to how this setting works and having to manually convert. It would also be nice to the OP’s point to have a way to restrict a tournament registration to those within a specific time zone range.

Agree jknitnerd. The problem is made worse because the tournament time is in your local time, so there's no reason to believe the playing hours would be in a different time zone. I think there are a couple of bug submissions on this.

This is why I now refuse to participate in any more tournaments. I'm trying to finish out the ones already started, but not again.

I've been kicked from a tournament game three times now - why? Because I keep getting assigned a game where everyone else is on a different continent. If there's a 24h or 30h time frame, and we're 8 hours off from each other minimum, it only takes 2-3 days to completely blast through the time allotment.

Then I end up with a bad reputation rating because the only American was set up with folks in Asia or Europe, who will always hit 'morning' first. No thank you.

I even wondered if there was a way to limit the time zone - but I don't see that as a regular option in the arena setup.
