Backgammon - Rules not implemented correctly

Post by V1king »

Hi folks,

Not sure if this would be better in bug section or not.

As of now the rules of Backgammon are not implemented correctly. There is one exceptional rule that is may be not too well known.

"If there is only the possibilty to play only either roll number and not both then it must be the higher one."

This is very seldom and probably only applies once every 10.000 moves. I had this situation yesterday. I klicked the lower number and my move was accepted.

Cheers Viking

I know this rule. It happened to me, too. And the system forced me to move the higher roll. Maybe you should check better your situation.

I quickly looked through your games on 31.5., V1king.

Probably you are talking about game #176872608. In the end you had 14 checkers off the board and your last checker was on your 6-spot. You rolled 5-6. Probably you tried to move your checker off with the 6 and BGA did not allow that. BGA forced you to first use the 5 and then to use the 6 to bear off.

Please note that the BGA implementation is correct since you have to use both your dice and ONLY if this is not possible you are allowed to use one die (the higher one, if possible).

Since the correct move 6-1, 1-off results in the same outcome as 6-off, one will directly move off the single checker in a real game play (without letting it land on the 1-spot first). It would be user friendly if BGA would allow that, but the current implementation is strictly following the rules.

Summary: No bug.

So it happened again. Last time I did not find the correct game but this time I can prove it.

I was about to enter with 5-3 . Since the 17 is blocked I can only use one of my numbers. According to the rules I must use the higher one..e.g. I am forced to enter with 5. However the game allowed me to enter with 3.

Not implemented correctly.

It was the following game: Backgammon #183909612

You are right, this is a bug. Have you posted it already in the bug forum - so that we can upvote it?

Yep, looks like you should have to use the '5' in that one.
