Need account att other site to read rulebook?

Post by Evreka »

Hi!

I just opened today's treasure chest (Herlot) and thought I'd might give the game a try. However when I try to download the rulebook I'm taken to another site that request me to login there!? What's up with that? Why can't I get the rules for games at BGA at BGA?

BGA doesn't host any rule pdf.

The wiki might include a sum up of the rule written by the community. Otherwise, they just link to reputable places where the rule pdf can be found. Often, the rules are available on the editor's website, in which case the link is direct to the pdf.
However, it's not always the case. The second best option is BoardGameGeek, which hosts rule pdf for almost most modern boardgames, and have them accessible for free, but requires to create an account and login.

One could imagine a collaboration between BGA and BGG, where you could connect to BGG with your BGA account. But that's not the case currently.

I do believe taking this out of the community's hands and providing direct links would greatly improve the general site experience.

I don't see why BGA couldn't host rules that are published on an unofficial site like BGG, or link to rulebooks hosted on the publisher's site. Broken links or new rules could still be reported by users, moderators would just need to vet them.

Anyway, for Herrlof I have downloaded the rules from BGG and reuploaded them to an image hoster (since they're just a JPG): https://ibb.co/FX8XTpC. They are now visible on the game panel: https://boardgamearena.com/gamepanel?game=herrlof

PDF Host is a good alternative for PDF versions, e.g.: https://pdfhost.io/v/i3h.t2Hty_Fleet_ru ... nglish.pdf
