As a testament to the game's randomness, I tried playing a four player game. I went second, and wound up playing about two dozen cards and winning the game. Players three and four never even got a turn! Yay for me, but kind of unfair for them.

It was selected as one of anual "Select Games" by Mensa in 1999 including Apples to Apples, Bollox, Double Wind and Quiddler. The award is supposed to go to the best "puzzle" games, but they often go with popular games as well. I can see how you could think that Fluxx is a puzzle game on paper but once you play it you will quickly discover it's mostly just unadultered chaos due to frequent hand swaps. But hey, mensa are not the sharpest knives in the drawer.

Just for the heck of it, here are some card games from the end of the 90s that they never awarded:

For Sale!
Schotten Totten
Lost Cities
Bohnanza
Netrunner

It can happen, but rarely that it happens so fast.
That is indeed the randomness of the game, and the odds can change quickly.

One moment your opponent has 5 keepers and a full hand, while you are scraping by with no keepers and just 2 cards in your hand, and then BAM! and you lay down a Hand Limit and Share the Wealth, balance restored.
