IWARI: Dominate the regions of Iwari!

Iwari reimagines the award-winning game Web of Power by Michael Schacht by adding new layers of strategy, tribe player boards, different maps with their own set of rules, modules that can be added to the game, and unique co-operative and solo modes.

Evermore have they walked the world of Iwari. Evermore have they embodied its spirit and shaped its lands. They are stewards of the earth. Five Titans that make the cosmos breath. On Iwari, there are no teeming masses, no continent-wide civilizations. Humanity is in its infancy, living in scattered tribes in the forest, tundra, and desert.

Now we have left our ancestral homelands to explore the vast uncharted regions, encountering other tribes and exchanging knowledge, culture and wisdom. In our journey, we all live in harmony with the Titans, and though distant to us, they decide our fate. And yet we don't know if they created us, or we created them.

Iwari is an abstract-like Eurogame in which players represent different tribes looking for their identity by traveling around distant lands and expanding their settlements into five different regions on the board. In the game, players use cards for two different actions:

1) Place tents and expand their settlements into five different regions on the board in a majority game that scores on each territory.
2) Construct nature totems to bond with the Titans by placing them on regions and score points based on the totem majorities in adjacent territories.

During the game, players can complete missions that grant small perks and score points by having the majority of tents in each territory after the end of the first card cycle. At game end, the majority of tents will be scored again, along with the majorities of nature totems in two adjacent regions and settlements that players have created (i.e., four or more tents in an uninterrupted sequence along one of the roads on the board).

See you on Wednesday for more...

Ha! Would ya know... just before logging in I was researching Iwari's stats on BGG to see if it was a game I'd be interested in purchasing a hard copy of. I determined I didn't have enough confidence to buy it and thought... "if only it was on BGA... I could get a better feel for its metrics and flow and then I could have confidence in purchasing it!... oh well." [switches tabs... logs into BGA... see's there's news and clicks on it...] "Iwari now available!"... It was a waaaay cool moment for my brain... like I just won a low chance lottery prize! Thanks for providing that moment... thank you for the positive community you have built and continue to build here... thank you for working hard to make this such a wonderful experience and bring in new content while we also enjoy the games we love to play over and over... thank you to the publishers and programmers... from my heart to yours, thank you!:)

Congrats! The game is great it’s a superb adaptation here :)
I’m so glad some of the other titles from ThunderGryph are coming as well.
It’s also great to have not just the base game here, but most of the maps, feats and expeditions. I really enjoyed playing this game :)

Thanks for the compliments! I just wished more players would share your enthusiasm and at least try out the game, but looking at the numbers is rather disappointing. When the game went into beta, it peeked at about 100 games a day and quickly dropped after a week, the final release brought a peek of about 200 games and already dropped to 100 after only 3 days - while a game like CuBirds for example still reaches over 5.000 games each day.

Hey, don't worry, this doesn't mean the game or the implementation is less good: CuBirds is a much simpler and shorter game, and also seems to be more famous than Iwari outside of BGA (3 times more ratings on BGG), so it's not surprising that it is played a lot more. There are hundreds of games on BGA, so of course some of them are played less than others, but dozens of games a day still means that a lot of players are enjoying it!

Edit: Oh and I forgot: Iwari is premium and CuBirds isn't, so a lot of players can't start an Iwari game, they can only join an already existing table, which has an impact on the number of games played.
