Please do not say gg if it is literally not a "good game"

Post by shrouded figure »

Saying gg should not be a default at every game end.

If you are the one constantly out of time

If there is a clearly large disparity in the skill levels between players

If there has been a severe RNG bias in a luck-based game

Just... STOP. It is phony, condescending, and you can be better than that.

Thank you.

Just stop creating topics about it too..it is just for some a standard to say something short without being silence and and maybe unfriendly but gg is indeed in a lot of cases the wrong message then (there is already some topics about it)

This is interesting. To me, I think it’s a very polite message, even if there was a clear skill gap. I’m surprised that there are people that feel this way. I don’t tend to play games with any RNG, but I think every game can deserve a gg.

Haha. I haven’t been keeping up. Thanks.

EDIT: Actually, I just had a look at it, and it seems like this thread is slightly different. The other was about saying gg too early, which I can see how some people might misinterpret as being rude if it’s too far ahead of the end game, but in this particular thread, they seem to take the meaning of gg a bit too literally.

Lately I have been saying
Well Done

If I get trounced or I feel I didn't play well

Thanks for the game

If I feel that way about my opponent, but I get the social pressures especially for the looser to say GG so it doesn't appear as a rage quit.

What about this one: "Can we stop with the good game when it wasn't a good game?" Wasn't even that long ago (March of this year).

That thread was locked, and here we have another on the exact same topic.

As above, the conclusion was always 'let's use "thanks for playing" instead of gg in that case'. That's it. No need to repeat the whole thing again.

This is my first ever thread. Although it seems this unconstructive practice isn't going away ever, if there has already been threads about it...

I do say gg when the game was enjoyable for everyone. But gg loses its meaning when people use it in every situation and disregards context, it becomes no longer polite. For instance, if I were to go over the clock in a game, I wouldn't be so shameless to say gg because I'd know others are annoyed. I'd apologise or thank them for waiting. Therefore I cannot understand the mindset of gg in such less-than-ideal games.
