A decent player will not give you a red thumb for conceding.ipsam wrote:Simply. Do not concede and just finish the game as quick as possible like normal.
Say "gg" at the end and a decent player will not give you a red thumb.
What is wrong with CONCEDING?

What is being discussed is not leaving, but conceding. When you concede the game is counted as a loss for you and a win for your opponent.Marty78 wrote:As far as I know no one receives any modifications to their ranks if someone leaves a game. As you can be bored playing a game you know you'll lose eventually, your opponent can enjoy this game thanks to his luck or his successful and well chosen strategy.
When you concede, you cut of his enjoyement.
I don't think there is only one good reply to this issue. One player isn't having fun, the other one is. You can't please both.

I think it depends on when your opponent concedes. It happened to me twice lately:Coin-coin le Canapin wrote:As you can be bored playing a game you know you'll lose eventually, your opponent can enjoy this game thanks to his luck or his successful and well chosen strategy.

- On a Reversi game, in the middle of the game. My opponent saw I was leading and conceded, there is nothing wrong about it.
- On a Seasons games, I had prepared my end game, and had very few luck during the beginning of the game, so my opponent was leading. During my last turn, he realizes that I'm ending the game (with the boots) and that my last actions will get me the win, and he concedes just before I can play my last card. The game is still a win for me, but I have not been able to finish what I planned, and the game score is far from what it should have been (60 - 10 in my memory). In this case, I red-thumb my opponent.

I agree.
edit : Ah! I was playing Seasons and I had my first conceding opponent.
He conceded just before the end (One more click and the game was over).

I was frustrating for me because I couldn't see the final score of both of us. I couldn't know by how much point I was winning. So the game was ended with ridiculous scores and it means nothing to me.

I guess I am surprised if there exists a person (past the age of ten or so) who enjoys playing through a game they have very obviously won.Coin-coin le Canapin wrote:As you can be bored playing a game you know you'll lose eventually, your opponent can enjoy this game thanks to his luck or his successful and well chosen strategy.

I would expect people to find that boring and to want the other player to concede.
In Chess and Go, (the board games I was born and raised on,) it is actually rude not to concede.

Re: What is wrong with CONCEDING?
To be frank, your reason for red-thumbing doesn't make a bit of sense. A win is a win is a win. The score does not matter. If it matters to you, you're doing something other than playing the game in front of you--which is fine, but you cannot expect your opponent to be doing the same. They're there to play the game, not to do... whatever it is you're doing.hemhel wrote:I think it depends on when your opponent concedes. First of all, my appologies regarding my bad english. It's hard to explain my opinion about this because of that.Speusippus wrote:A win is a win is a win. The score does not matter.
About my red thumb, It was frustrating to not see the actual game score not because I like to have a "big penis", but because it shows how much the moves I made during the game were efficient.
It's not about winning. For me, it's the enjoyment of watching our chosen strategies working well regarding the game events (random -or not- events, opponent moves...), increasing its efficiency piece after piece. The last move is the last piece.
This is what represents the little bit of game history i'm creating with my opponent(s).
The score does matter, not as a number, but because of what it represents : how hard was the game for each players. This is why I laugh with my friend when I see he has won by 150-148, and we're talking about how the game could have end differently with other moves in attempt to grab two or three more points. This kind of stuff.
My enjoyment doesn't come (only) from winning. It comes because the game was nice. With surprising moves, nice strategies, a little bit of random chaos on some games. It's kind of about emotions felt during the game session. I can appreciates games I've lost, because we played well.
So, this is why it's frustrating when the opponent just shut down the game while we're enjoying it.
Thought, I totally understand why a player would concede on the opposite side because it's also frustrating to see the opponent already winning even if the game is only half way of the end.

These are reasonable things to want, but they are not reasonable things to punish an opponent for. How is s/he supposed to know you want all that, and when did s/he agree to provide it to you?

Re: What is wrong with CONCEDING?
I think conceding is felt different by the winning opponent regarding the game style, personnality and atmosphere.
But, also, I don't think a single red thumb is a punishment. It's a red thumb. It shouldn't often came up when playing normally.
If someone have that much red thumbs because of conceiding, I think the problem comes from him.
I'm kind of new on BGA and I play only Seasons, but I've done over 40 games : I had only 1 red thumb given to me, I gave only one, and I didn't play against anyone who has that much red thumbs that was a handicap to find an opponent.
