One advantage is it is fast to type (on a tablet or phone). It is frustrating when everyone leaves before I finish typing a longer message. Agreed it is sometimes a bit inaccurate.

The reason people tend to use 'gg' is because it is nice and short.

This is my first ever thread. Although it seems this unconstructive practice isn't going away ever, if there has already been threads about it...

I think every game can deserve a gg.

I do say gg when the game was enjoyable for everyone. But gg loses its meaning when people use it in every situation and disregards context, it becomes no longer polite. For instance, if I were to go over the clock in a game, I wouldn't be so shameless to say gg because I'd know others are annoyed. I'd apologise or thank them for waiting. Therefore I cannot understand the mindset of gg in such less-than-ideal games.

So that’s where we disagree. I take gg as a fixed expression, just like how one would drop a “How are you?” when meeting someone. I think it’s a very nice and short way to say goodbye after a game. If I had anything else to add, I would probably say something else. Perhaps the only time someone is not worthy of even a gg is if they deliberately play a bad game, or are actually being rude during the game.

I think you'll find that some disagree with that phrase too. Basically, you can't please everybody.

I think most important is that you say, what you consider appropriate. And keep in mind, that other people have another perspective. When they say gg in a game that you don't think was good - they still mean it in a friendly and polite way. Yes, it is a very low effort politeness, but still they mean it well (or at least they think it "should be like that").

If you have in mind that others probably don't mean you any harm and they are talking with their perspective and with their background of experience, then you might be able to not get annoyed by stuff like that.

Emotions do not work that way.
Players might still get frustrated due to lopsided luck, gap of skills, blunders, and/or other various reasons in games without any troll.
I've seen even some professional gamers typing 'g' or nothing instead of 'gg' occasionally.
Therefore I won't say gg if I don't take the game truly as a 'good game' for all players.
I probably won't reply on this subject again as well, as I said earlier.
