Iwari is now in Beta

Post by ElNSTElN »

Overwhelmed by all the positive feedback I got from the Alpha testers during the last 3 weeks, I have the honour to announce that Iwari is now in Beta and available to everyone on BGA: https://boardgamearena.com/gamepanel?game=iwari

Iwari is a reimplementation of China, Han and Web of Power (in German speaking countries known as Kardinal & König) - the latter nominated for "Spiel des Jahres" 2000 - by the well known Designer Michael Schacht.

Iwari on BGA comes with 5 different maps to choose from - along with optional feats and expedition cards to spice up the experience once you're accustomed to the game. The game plays easily below 30 minutes, and I highly recommend to play it in real-time to not miss the scoring animation.

Here's a screenshot of my favorite map - the Floating Lands:

Lovely implementation of a beautiful game.

I think an undo button after card draws from the display because no new information has been gained and sometimes folks mis-click. Obviously, there shouldn't be an undo for a draw from the deck because information has been gained.

Thanks for the compliment!

As you stated correctly, there can't be an undo when drawing from the deck, even if you mis-clicked there and wanted to take the left most display card instead. The main thing with undo though is that it slows down gameplay, because if you have the option to undo something, you also must confirm your move when you're done, and that is an additional click every turn - even if you only mis-click in one out of 100 games (just putting a random ratio here). There could be a simple undo when you still have cards left to draw, but when you took your last card the game automatically continues. So this would have to be changed and I don't like the sound of that.

Even if you play the game on a small mobile device (which I wouldn't recommend since the board is just so tiny then) the cards should be big enough to not accidentally click the wrong one.

If the majority of players wants this feature I still could think of having this as an option, but for now I'm more inclined to not doing this.

I think I have found a bug.

I have had a couple of games where, despite there being at least 2 tents and only one totem I could not place a second totem. For example in a region with one tent of each colour and only one totem, I could not place a tent followed by a totem.

I think the rules are pretty straightforward in that you can have as many totems as there are tents in the majority. Bug?

It's always better to use the bug report system in such a case: https://boardgamearena.com/bugs?game=1395

But before reporting check whether the same "bug" has been reported before. Maybe it's not a bug after all.

Your case might match with this one: https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=45454

To summarize: Each player only has 8 totems. Probably you had none to place any more.
