I was reflecting on the fact that in a few rare games it can feel as if bidding zero for a faction is correct - that the gap between the likely scores of the best and worst situated factions is greater than 30.
I also notice that in the official rules for the auction variant, the starting value is meant to be 40. There are other differences, but is there any reason why BGA Terra Mystica auction doesn't start at 40, to allow for greater flexibility in these rare cases?
