Which turn number am I on?

Post by MrSnankyPlank »

Sincere apologies if I'm missing something really obvious.

Is there a way to check which turn number my game's currently on?

Just look at the next number visible in the central board (bottom right corner of an action space) and substract 1.

Tisaac's answer tells you the game round (1-14.)

The game state move number is in the top left corner of the screen.

Each player's amount of turns taken so far is how many action spaces they've placed onto.

Your question could have been about any of those, so hopefully one of those is what you're looking for.

Can we make it more obvious? Maybe just a border on the round number? Or a border highlighting the harvest rounds? I just submitted the question (before finding this one) but it seems like a repeated request.

Merci!

2 people is not really popular so far. I really dont understand why people have trouble figuring out that part, maybe you can explain ?

Sure. It's more than two people, my gaming group includes a number of players whom have voiced the same concern. I volunteered to report it, and right after I made the suggestion, found another poster had recently asked the same question.

Agricola is a game of optimization, every action you take has to efficiently contribute to the end goal. It is very unforgiving, a single mistake and you're done. It is GREAT that BGA has implemented the CONFIRM button for this game, allowing players to try out different moves before confirming which one they actually want to submit. The game is played over 14 rounds with a Harvest round on the 4th, 7th, 9th, 11th, 13th, and 14th. On these rounds, you must feed your people. Failure to do so results in a Beggar penalty of -3 for each food you are short. The game is usually so tight at the end that anyone who receives a Beggar token cannot win.

Have a look at the board as it is implemented. By the middle of the game, the playing surface is so busy that it becomes very easy to lose track of what round you are in. As you play the game, the empty action squares become filled, and they are filled in an uneven shape. 4 spots on the top row, then 3, 2, 2, then 4 with a rock which actually makes 3. Along with the pop-up for Major Improvements / Display cards in hand, it becomes quite easy to mistake the round you are in and not collect food for your people. In other games on BGA, such as Through the Ages, the game very helpfully lets you know that if you submit as you currently have your board set up, you will experience Corruption or your people will Revolt. In Agricola, rather than do something like that (that would also be good), I think if the game highlighted the round number in a more obvious fashion, or warned that the player was in a Harvest round, there would be less chance of submitting in error.

Thanks!

That's the part I don't understand. The board is filling up line by line, and an harvest always happen at the end of a line (except the last line that is clearly split in two parts by a big mountain). You also have the harvest icon on the board itself right next to the action spaces.
So I can understand people struggling a bit for the first two games, but really I don't get why this would be tedious after a couple games, and all the feedbacks I got from "experienced" players so far seems to corroborate that.

I think the best would be to create a suggestion in the bug/suggestion system and let people upvote it. If many players upvote it, then why not adding it. In the meantime, I consider it not worth the dev time.

Oui, tu as peut-être raison. Après une douzaine de parties de jeu, j'imagine que cela devrait être assez facile de déterminer si nous devons nourrir nos bonhommes. Je vais néanmoins créer une suggestion car tous ceux à qui je présente le jeu tombent dans le même piège. A+!
