CHEATERS LIST - GAME

Post by TheaLuna »

Hi EVERYONE -i HAVE CREATED A POLL BC I AM REALLY SICK OF CHEATERS CAUSING PLAYERS TO LOSE POINTS AND REP

I have written before about cheating.
I have spoken with a number of tourney organisers who say they are fed up also.
Players have told me they dont enter the comps and tourney bc of the cheating. "Its a waste of time.."

As an example - A player used the 'I have an emergency" button this evening. The other player replied, "OK" then expelled the player with the emergency as soon as he ran out of time. He had been afk for less than 3 minutes. And a red thumb is the only option? The player with the emergency got penalised lost points, got a warning "not to be that player' and lost reputation :o :o :o

I don't think so. And if its your first time playing that person - you cant red thumb them anyway. This person says has left the site now bc its happened way too many times.

Consequently I have made a poll .. after speaking with a lot of players...

The 6 options are what I have heard the most when talking with players.
Perhaps it is only a handful of players who agree cheating should be addressed more. And dealt with more harshly.
So, here you go BGA Community - what do you think?

How is this cheating? What explicit rule was broken? The site rules clearly state that if someone runs out of time, anyone at the table is allowed to expel them.

Your example is a pretty poor one, that‘s just unfair / false behaviour of these ppl, but no cheating.
Furthermore, your title is quite misleading too, as it suggest to create a public witch hunting by the community, which likely wouldnt be accepted and also doesnt promise to turn out the greatest.

Thanks for the poll itself though, as it could help to show some feelings, which so far seem to be ignored generously.
Unfortunately, one only can select 2 options, while all but 1 and 3 could be voted for imho, and feeling most like 5.

May I ask why we have an option to say 'Sorry, I have an emergency . Ill be right back" -not exact words obv - .. If someone bothers to send that msg in a game the first thing I do is switch to turn based. The player was back at the table within 30 secs of time running out. So why the options if they mean nothing. The point is, when you do expel someone they lose points and rep. How is that fair?

Ok so maybe not 'cheating' if the options are irrelevant and mean nothing. But are players so desperate to win an imagined glory for winning a game through bad sportmanship?? The other player requested a minute. How hard is it to be nice - sh** happens sometimes ?

There's no emergency button, lol.

What are you talking about?

Your timer runs out -> you're out. It's very simple.

If you have an emergency, the best thing is to quit the game after announcing it IMO, and that's the way it should be handled.

Losing points and rep is really not an issue if it happens rarely. And I'm pretty sure when you have an emergency, the lost rep and points don't matter much in that situation. You'll quickly gain your rep + points back when you finish a few games. So why does it bother you so much?

The only thing is, when it happens often - more often than the time you need to recover your rep. Then it hurts your account and you'll get a bad overall reputation. But seriously, if you have an emergency in more than 1 in 20 games - then it's not an "emergency" but a recurring pattern. While I understand that some people are in situations where that's unavoidable, which I respect, you should ask yourself whether it's a good idea to play real-time games. You have the option to play with longer thinking time (slow game), without time limit, play only with friends who don't skip you, play in training mode or simply just play turn-based. Maybe that's more for you.

Please understand that whatever your emergency is - it does annoy other players when they have to wait. So yeah, not a big deal if it happens sometimes. But when it happens very often then a bad rep is justified.

And in no way has it anything to do with cheating to skip you. It's just not nice to do it after such a short time and when other player informed about the emergency. So yeah, red-thumb is your only option there.

That is that persons fault, not the players around him.

When you start a game, you clearly accept the playing time required. IF you don't accept, don't start.
Sure, an emergency can occur … rarely, and should be an exception, not all the time.

If you're saying it happened too many times, it also means your friend also messed around with other peoples time too many times. This example is really not helping your case.

Ok.. so perhaps I didnt word my post very well.. It seems y'all prefer to turn around and attack me when all I was trying to do is call some attention to something that annoys many players who have expressed the same .. Excuuuuuse moi!!!

Not to worry. It seems misappropriating and manipulating time is also an issue but hey, Im not paying for it so ..

I have actually read many posts since I posted the op on this.

Seems I am definately not alone. Just sayn.

I voted for this, but some people, like TheaLuna, clearly don't know the definition of cheating.
Cheating is already defined on the site, in the ToS, and can and will be moderated once reported. People can see if moederation occured against players, just not the exact details.

So in a way, this is already the case.
Had TheaLuna's friend reported this, the moderator would have rejected the case in a heartbeat as it wasn't cheating.
6 I'm not joining and paying any membership money until cheating is addressed.
This is bull, the membership fee is already quite low for what you get in return, and moderators do act on reports of cheaters.

If you don't agree, some others make their case and take it public on the forum. I am not saying I approve of this action, but certainly some not-guilty verdicts have been overturned to guilty verdicts this way. Ofcourse this can come back and hit you in the face too, like the case given here as an example, which is laughable. The friend was in the wrong, not the so called "cheaters".
