Why is BGA so tolerant to an intentional gameruin?

Post by tap-zbyna »

Hi everyone,

in Hanabi there are some games in which a player intentionally ruins the game by playing nonsense card.

Check out player Ficient in this game:

https://boardgamearena.com/gamereview?table=164353087

Sadly BGA does not allow to report anyone for such behaviour, in fact it is encouraged by BGA.

Few months ago I wrote "shut up and play" to a PRIVATE message to a player, who intentionally ruined 2 moves and then started insulting everyone. After minutes of his insulting I wrote him and he reported me. And I got the warning, BGA was ok with his behaviour obviously.

Do we really want this type of players on BGA? Why cannot we report gameruiners? In a game like Hanabi it would be very useful.

There is a 'style' of play called Efficient. (Play all cards clued).
But that should be announced at the beginning of the game.

Not sure why he Bombed though.

I couldn't rewatch the game, it's bugging.
I don't know what you mean about not being able to report such behavior, because i've reported several people for playing badly on purpose. I don't remember exactly which option I chose.

Seems to me you're got punished for using bad langage and he didn't because nobody reported his (you don't mention that you did at least).
Sure, it's not fair to be reported for something as mild if he really had been insulting for several messages but you could have told him "stop chatting and play" or "if you keep insulting people and throwing the game on purpose i'll report you, please play" and he wouldn't have had any ground to report you.

As for what Derek says, that "efficient style", is it the same as "good touch principle" or is it something else ?

Efficient Style - all clued cards are played (unless told to stop).

'good touch principle' touched cards are playable, just not yet (which is more about not clueing dups).

I never found a FAQ/Wiki about it.

Ragequits are perfectly fine, because winning games or "ranks" or "score" don't mean anything. In reality, the higher your score is, the worse you are most of the time.

Some people, and probably I as well, don't really have much of an interest in a game where people aren't playing efficiently. I will finish it, but without enjoyment.

Intentional random card play because of rage is entertaining, but also a waste of my time, so I ban whoever does it. Problem solved.

This has been the case for a long time.

What's really missing is disabling the ability to quit games.

all my warnings are from people who have insulted me first and i just replied normally and i get muted for retaliation ...they dont even read the conversations, just the 1 comment the comments the other person complained about

Don't take this game so serious. If you didn't like to play with that player, give him a red thumb at the end of the match and the game won't allow a match between you and him.

Maybe he had a bad day.

How have you played over 2000 games of Hanabi on here and not noticed that almost EVERYONE takes it incredibly seriously?

And I'm guessing from your ELO that you take it pretty seriously too.

yep; basically, TELLING SOMEONE you're going to report them will almost assuredly get you reported!

make a few polite suggestions/requests for different play; perhaps request to abandon the game... then thumbs down, SILENTLY

seems like the best habit since there are trolls on BGA...
