Increase the upper limit of the number of participants in tournaments

Post by LSC »

Currently in BGA we can set up a swiss or elimination tournament with a maximum 512 players. This limit is quite a large number, but as time progress the number of players in the community increases and this limit will likely to reach soon.

The number of players in

has already reached 482 and the number of players who want to enter the tournament may well above 512 next year. So I suggest it is time for BGA to consider pushing the upper limit to like 1024.

Hi,

for more players, the format should be a multi-stage tournament; it's in alpha at the moment, you can read information about it on :

Thanks for your reply.

1. How may I create tournament in this new mode to test the new format?
2. From my understanding, players would be divided into groups in the first stage before the winners of each group emerge into second stage where they play together in a single group,
a. for Elimination mode, this would be equivalent to a big elimination bracket broken into different sections, which would probably help in a way of a easier viewing.
b. However, for Swiss System, I can't see a way of this multi-stage tournament to be equivalent to a big Swiss System. Some players are eliminated in the first group stage, and those who progress can't bring their results forward into the second stage.

May I ask if I use single elimination in stage 2, how the seeds are determined? The draw at the beginning of stage 1? The results in stage 1? The ELO at the beginning of stage 2?
