If you are the greatest player ever at a certain game I could just red thumb you to be able to pick and choose my opponents in arena otherwise. The only way to avoid players with bad karma is to set a minimum amount of karma you will accept for an opponent; a red thumb will not work (in arena).
What if you red thumb a person for insulting you, or any other thing, but not because the person is "greatest player ever"?

I don't think in most cases, RTs should be disrespected, not even in Arena.

If i got attacked with threats or rasist insults, I don't see why I should be matched with that player, just cause it's Arena, sorry.
Yes, I agree ... if you red thumb someone for the right reasons then you should be able to avoid them, but that isn't the way that arena works. The BGA system has no means of knowing whether you are trying to game the system (many people do) or whether it is a genuine grievance and desire to not face the opponent for non-gaming means. What I was mostly responding to (and should have quoted) is:
dschingis27 wrote: 08 September 2021, 19:05 To get matched against players you red-thumbed is definitely not the intended behavior.
The only way to make things better is to file a bug report where you specify exactly the games where it happened.
https://boardgamearena.com/bugs

If enough other users also report such occasions, there is a chance that BGA staff looks into this.
It isn't a bug, it is definitely the intended behaviour (whether that is right or wrong is another debate).
I am really sorry you see things like this. I find it selfish...

I totally disagree.

If players take advantage of the RTS, in Arena... the site should find other ways of dealing with this, or create another system, or... if they keep the Arena RT Ignorance, at least make player names incognito... :(

I don't know where you get your information, but it's definitely not intended behaviour. Red thumbs are respected in Arena, unless this was silently changed.

I think it is possible it was changed, since more people are commenting about it.

I wasn't very active in Arena last few days, so I thought the OP was wrong.

Sorry.

I got my information from ... well, thin air it would seem! I had a game some time ago where I red thumbed one opponent and then they appeared in my next arena game. I recall looking at the forums and seeing that I couldn't block people with red thumbs in arena mode and accepted that. Unfortunately I can't find where I read that so I could have been dreaming it. If I've got my information wrong then I sincerely apologise. It would be good to know definitively from an admin if red thumbs are supposed to be respected in arena mode.

I think you misunderstood me. I was saying that as far as I was aware (which could be rubbish per my first part of this post) the red thumbs were deliberately not respected in Arena mode. I wasn't saying I agreed with it. I actually think that red thumbs should be respected in arena mode, like most people here. Clearly you are not sorry that I see things like that and do not find it selfish as you agree with me. I was talk fact (which again I might have got wrong), not opinion.

maybe it would be a solution if you cannot get matched with those who you not only RT'd but also have reported for an incident that lead to a moderation. while still getting matched with players you have RT'd for personal reasons.
Check out the Allround-League: https://boardgamearena.com/group?id=7870115 --> a league where you have matches of random games vs. other players in your group. Season 9 registration oct. '25.

Maybe arena games should be blind: no clue on who you're playing against, since you can't do anything about it.

After i said the exact same thing... people said that is not ok, because in some games, one may play in a certain way against other players, knowing or presuming how they would play, from previous games.

Well, that would be an additional reason for blind play. I understand psychology and mind reading is a part of most games, but I'd consider it an undesirable part, with some exceptions.

Then you should have phrased the first sentence here, differently. Because you kind of made it look like all red thumbs are... for this reason, you say in the text i used above.

Also dude, sorry, but... these 2 things under, which you said... sorry if i don't understand, but are self-contradictory.

You're right, I should have been more careful with my wording. Sorry about that. What I was trying to say was that being matched up with opponents you have red thumbed was right in arena mode, the way it has been programmed. (As previously noted this "statement of fact" could actually be inaccurate). My opinion, opposed to the way things are, is that thumbs should be respected. We are in agreement there.

On a side note I often set my opponent minimum karma to something like 75%+. Occasionally I've waited a while to get matched up in Res Arcana, and I spot another player also waiting. Their karma is 100%. I cancel my waiting game, set karma to all acceptable, and click play again. I immediately get matched up with the other waiting player. So I'm pretty sure there is a bug in there too but I've only really got anecdotal evidence and not hard evidence. I mention this because, back to the OP, one way of avoiding players is to restrict on karma.
