Programmatically accessing BGA data

Post by exxodus7 »

Is there any endpoint for querying the BGA database? Obvi not personal user data, but I'd love to mine some game data!

if you search the Suggestions forum (https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=9) for "API" you'll find many previous requests there...

many have gone effectively unanswered, but the official answer seems to be that it's against BGA's data policy of not allowing third party...

while it wouldn't give away any more than you could already fetch via lots of clicking around, the response is that

When's the last time a BGA dev has actually implemented a BGA website suggestion? Seems like putting anything there is just shouting into the void.

This would actually be very useful.
If not for replays (which are painfully slow in BGA implementation), at least to be able to download the the full history of one own games.

Well now you have a "play now" button when you are on a game, which was one of the most asked feature of the website. So they implement stuff from the suggestions. But of course all suggestions are not equal in terms of priority or in this case might as well be rejected by admins for couple of good reasons they already explained at several places, mostly about taking extra resources.

While I agree data mining being incredibly useful for game analysis, allowing this will be bad (perhaps the worst) decision for server management.
