No stables left but none on the board

Hi there,
I'm just learning to play Agricola so I hesitate to file this as a bug but at some point I've realised that I had run out of stables but none appear on the board.

I remember getting a red banner at some point and also failing to place 2 stables but I didn't pay attention to the stable counter on the right handside until the end of the game.

Bug or some rule that I missed out?

I think I'm missing something because I've just played another game and I had one stable on the board but the interface told me I had none left when I tried building more.

You are misunderstanding the message : the game is telling you you can't buy more than 4 because that's the limit of your reserve. So even if you have enough ressources to buy 10 of them, you are limited by the total number of 4.
