Some of the games have very little competition at the higher rankings. For example, in one day I became 5th ranked in Quoridor. In 4 games, I became 30th ranked in Hearts. Now there are only a handful of people to compete against in Quoridor, and within a couple more games of Hearts, I'll face the same problem of having to play much lower ranks.
A solution to this would be to offer an incentive to top 8 players of each game, such as standard membership (or something else if you can think of something). Because otherwise there will only be a handful of games that are played, and the rest are not competitive. With the incentive of free membership on the line, you can bet that new players will branch out and start trying to master Quoridor and the like.
Even popular games like Puerto Rico do not have enough competition at the higher levels. I recently became Expert and restricted the game to Good+ players, but after 25 minutes of sitting and waiting, I couldn't get a 3-player game going!
