BGA's stance towards ads in games?

Post by KongKing123 »

This seems like the best place to put this question, but feel free to move it if it's not.

There is a permanent advertisement shown rather prominently within the game Lady's Choice:
Link target: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jonchambers/ladys-choice
Link target: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jonchambers/ladys-choice
Lady's Choice ad.PNG (253.7 KiB) Viewed 948 times

Is this allowed by the developer guidelines? If so, please consider prohibiting or regulating it (for example: you can add one link in the Credits tab), since it opens the door to even more obnoxious ads.

I've never seen this type of ad before. If people like the game, I'm sure they can find it on their own.

The two proper places for external advertisement links are the "custom_buy_button" parameter in gameinfos and the publisher-defined banner advertisements on the top of the interface (Queen and Rio Grande are two publishers making use of these). I didn't find anything in the guidelines or the terms and conditions for developers, but would agree that there should be an official policy about external links and advertisements within the game interface.

The only precedent I'm aware of for an advertisement within the interface is at the bottom of Race For the Galaxy when you're playing the base game only, but that is an ad specifically to become a premium member of BGA, and is not an external link.

The only precedent I'm aware of for an external link within a game interface is Lost Explorers, which is a google maps link Easter egg at the end of the game, and is not an advertisement.

This is not a right way to include adds and we informed the publisher / developer to remove it and use banners instead. I'll check it out again and decide what to do with it.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Thank you. FYI, it's still in the game.
