Re: Is this trolling

Post by senatorhung »

i decided to re.check the replays of the games after realizing that i had been mistaken about playing hearts with intrepid only once. looks like i have played at a hearts table with him 5x.

i don't really expect anyone to actually go thru those replays to confirm my assertions, but if anyone is really curious, they can watch these replays and make up their own minds. but here are my summaries:

http://en.boardgamearena.com/#!gamerevi ... e=12980131

shooting the moon:
1. around turn 165: no pass round so not applicable to this discussion
2. around turn 275: my hand was *so* strong, nothing the passer gave would have hurt much.
3. around turn 335: here Arthur didn't take a blocking heart trick when he could have, giving the moon to Helena. passing had nothing to do with it.

shooting the moon:
1. around turn 660: this one was definitely on me. i passed the Jc Qc and Kc to grel and he got rid of all his hearts. i also sluffed the Qs without making sure that grel wouldn't get the rest of the hearts. but it was a close game until that final round.

shooting the moon:
1. around turn 495: i was the passer on this one .. handing over the Kd Kc and 8c, but Kd was the only card that i would normally have worried about. however, sgaito also managed to dump all his garbage hearts on me, but that still left him with a mediocre hand with no aces. however, the card distribution ended up helping him to successfully shoot the moon, after the other 3 players started dumping hearts as soon as possible.

shooting the moon:
1. around turn 330: i passed to the person who shot the moon, but if you look at his hand after he passed, his hand was so strong that he could have worked with any 3 cards that he was given. the 2c and Kc that i sent him didn't really help him. only the Jd could have been considered something that might be covered, but he didn't need the Jd to run the table with the rest of his hand. intrepid was the one who sluffed the Qs before being sure that he could cover at least 1 of the remaining hearts. so intrepid accusing me of not covering my pass in this situation was ridiculous.
2. around turn 444: intrepid passed to the person who shot the moon, passing the As, Jc, and Kd .. all of which helped the resulting hand. it was this hand that he called out the table for not covering their pass, when it was his own pass that was the one in question. this was the hand that i am using as an example to highlight his hypocrisy in pushing other people to cover passes when he is apparently not willing to do so himself.

shooting the moon (attempts):
1. around turn 110: intrepid passed the Kh, Qc, and 7d to me. my moon shot failed only because Stevini short.suited himself in diamonds and Trevini made the sacrifice take of a single heart
2. around turn 220: intrepid passed the 10c, 10d and 10h to Stevini. Stevini's moon shot failed only because i held on to my highest heart until the final turn of the round. if Stevini had kept the 8h from his initial hand, his moon shot might have been successful with the extra 10h assist.

in both of these cases, intrepid passed a high heart that was NOT covered, both enabling the attempted moonshots.

covering your passes can definitely be a useful tactic to have in your toolkit, if you have a hand that gives you the opportunity to do so. but it is not a magic bullet.

as for the original topic at hand, anyone can check the history of my forum posts (as intrepid apparently did) ... i don't troll very often, at least without providing some kind of substance along with the snark. if you look at intrepid's post history, i think you will find a very different balance of trolling to content ...

You're right - I'm definitely not strolling through all those game logs. LOL. But I believe you. I wouldn't worry about it - it doesn't take much to figure out what's really going on here, or maybe I should say "who." ;)
