Moderationpolicy
This page comes from BGA wiki, and has been written by BGA players community. Feel free to edit it!
"
So is it officially what Moderators apply (should apply) or not?
Well you can't edit it, so it was not written by players, and it was last updated two weeks ago:
https://en.doc.boardgamearena.com/Moderationpolicy. It also seems in line with the punishments that I've come across or have been mentioned.
So I would guess that it's official, but I don't know for sure.
You don't say...
A few thoughts on all of this:
Beyond Reasonable Doubt
If there is any possible doubt, a player should be considered not guilty.
There have been quite a few cases, where there was a reasonable doubt (reasonable, to say the least), and all was ignored.
Appeal
Players have the right to appeal the moderation decision by forwarding received moderation email to "contact+appeal@boardgamearena.com".
They MUST explain in the email how the moderator failed to follow the BGA Moderation Policy. If the explanation is not convincing, the email will be ignored. If the player is obviously guilty and if the Moderation Policy has been followed, BGA admins will give a more severe penalty than the initial.
People complain on the forum that no link, no e-mail, no appeal is available, on the "I UNDERSTAND AND ACCEPT" page, when the moderation kicks in.
I consider the appeal procedure too complicated and shady at the same time, and even the players who manage to do it well, no appeal was ever successful or followed by feedback (correct me if i am wrong).
And from what I have heard (from a few sources), the same moderator who moderated you, takes care of the appeal.
Player Profile Influence
The player's profile IS taken into account when determining if a player is guilty or not guilty. Moderators give more credit to players with a good profile than those in poor standing.
The player's profile is NOT taken into account when choosing the penalty if the player is found guilty.
Good profile elements are:
A good thumb up / thumb down ratio.
Player is registered for a long time / has a lot of games played.
Players is involved in the website (ex: validated translations).
Player is supporting BGA (Premium member).
You should also take into account the profile of the reporting player (report author): a bad reputation and/or an important number of reports already judged as "not guilty" should incite you to be very careful with this players report.
Sorry but... this looks to me like Premium players have less chance than non-Premium ones, to be considered guilty, for identical reports or situations... Which is the idea i expressed in MisterTab's last post on the forum:
https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewto ... =3&t=21953.
How is this fair? Especially since one of the moderators clearly said, once... "If you don't act nicely, you get penalties. Free or Premium." (
https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewto ... 2&start=30)
And also... the avatars. I find it funny that some people get moderated for what is considered "unacceptable avatar", when the avatars the site offers, when selecting a profile pic... a bunch of them are... not quite ok, from my point of view (skeletons, skulls, eyes dropping, nudity and so on).
I heard there was even a case where someone was reported for an avatar (an avatar selected from the ones the site offers), and the report was finalised with a moderation. I mean... really?
I am not criticising the site, i think it's great. I just felt these things were illogical, and wrote them for debate.
Have a nice day.
