Yeah, I think most agree.

I mean, if there was some constructive ending to any of the posts, it would make a bit of sense.

But all end in "we agree to differ".

Agreed. Can we stop about this already? And, in a broader perspective, to be so overly sensitive to so many things. Because of it, one would hardly dare to type or say anything at all.

Until another player has clearly shown otherwise by his or her behaviour, I always assume they are here for fun, just like me, and they have nothing but the best of intents. I have the impression that a small but very loud minority likes to approach this the other way around ...

Still... if a French player is allowed to be offended because a player wrote "Croissant", even though these "gg" threads are exhausting and unsolvable, people should also be allowed to be overly sensitive to neverending "gg"s. 🤗

The threads should stop just 'cause it's a neverending debate, with opinions remaining the same.

A poster on this forum claimed to be that player and was explicit that they intended to cause offence and be unpleasant. There is a different between giving offence and taking offence.

'talking 'bout this locked post?
https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewto ... =3&t=22595

'was posted by the moderated player; he said: "The one who made the "genius" comment is a friend of mine. We were speaking in Discord voice chat during the game. After he made the quip, he stated in voice chat that the guy might not even understand what he said since he's French. At which point, I told my friend that I'd type something I bet he could understand. And so I typed "croissant". Simple as that. For what it's worth, I'm half French and half Italian lol. If someone said "spaghetti baguette" to me, I don't think I could find offense in that, but that's just me, I guess. I don't go looking for things to be offended by."

'can't see how by reading that... your conclusion was: he was explicit that he intended to cause offence & be unpleasant. (????????????????) 🤔😶

What I understood: he explained that it was no harm intended from him, and it was only a harmless joke/situation/word, "croissant".
I agree 100% with "I don't go looking for things to be offended by"
- that's THE IDEA.

This "gg" stuff & the "croissant" moderation are 2 perfect examples of the BGA HYPER-SENSITIVITY.
Another one: being moderated for insult (racism, discrimination, homophobia (????), etc.), after using the word "hindu" in A NON-INSULTING WAY towards anyone/anything; and such examples are countless.

Also, some people might really be offended by "gg"s, making them post here.
I dislike the repetitive posts & don't find "gg"s offensive, just a difference of opinion (for me, as a more competitive vocal player, a game's never "good" for everyone, but the thanking for playing, could be for all - difference of opinion).
But that doesn't mean people can't be overly sensitive about "gg"s too (like they are about "croissant"/"hindu"), just 'cause you see "gg"s non-offensive.

What 'bout NCJeff's comment from above?
In this context, shouldn't that be considered stirring, mocking & disrespectful to the OP's post?
Perhaps someone should moderate him; he's making fun of the OP's opinion! That's unacceptable! :))

'can't understand how you can all be so sensitive, report & moderate anything.

BGA should just eliminate game chatting, 'cause anything can be offensive & moderation-worthy.
It'd also be better for them: less work, less stress.

There is a huge bias in the forum : you only hear about the players that complain, not the one that are having fun and enjoy talking during game.
So i would guess that the effort of the team is worth it. Sure, some players will get offended "for nothing" and stop playing, and other will get reported "for nothing" and will also complain/leave, but if the fraction of these user is less than 0.01%, then this is ok IMO.

Also, i dont think the comparison between croissant and gg makes sense because for gg, you will also get players that are offending if their opponent is NOT saying gg at the end of game, so that makes it even harder to deal with.

No no, this distinction is unfair. I'm offended, when my opponent is NOT saying "croissant"!

(what i want to say is +1 to your post)

(..) less than 0.01%, then this is ok IMO.

I don't understand how you come up with 0.01%... and I don't agree with your logic entirely (perhaps I fail to understand it in the way you write it).

You are just saying these things, because I suppose you have never felt injustice on BGA, without being able to do anything or talk about it. :-)

My comparison was to say that any player, as I see it, has the right to be offended by anything (even something so trivial as seeing "gg" everytime - then post here), considering the WIDE limits of the words (context or not) some of the players are moderated for ("croissant" or "hindu" or "heh" or "no" or whatever).
Simple as that.

If it was me to govern over moderations, the limits would be more narrow and more concise, but as BGA is putting it... you should accept these repeated forum posts and not make fun of them, like that player from above with the "gg" or others who said "these people/posts should be put in a different category" or something (interesting none of you ever criticise these people for mocking... only the arguably more annoying half).
Also, no mention about how Robert twisted that player's text, above, to make it something else
; cool...

No, they are very ok to be in "Discussions" - these posts, as anything else, as long as they're not offensive (the "j*rk" word used in the OP is bad); and you have the power of ignorance on your side, it shouldn't affect you.

Of course "gg" will not be moderation-worthy in most of contexts (if not all), while "hindu", "croiss.", "no", "heh" or others, would.
The point was on Hyper-sensitivity, not "moderation-worthy".

As for your 0.01%... Someone once brough a comparison between moderation on BGA and the Justice System in the real world.

❤️ Let's say a Judge has most of cases solved uncontestably well, but ~0.01%, let's say he/she mistakenly put people on the Death Row (0.01% cases in trial, compared to the "heh" case someone was moderated for).
Or a surgeon, who saved a lot of lives but ~0.01%, he/she didn't save, because even though he/she could, (s)he was burnt out; and later admitted.

Will people remember the majority of cases or the <0.01?
I would remeber the 2nd., perhaps i'm pessimistic.

Again, i don't know how you came up with 0.01, and I am aware that the 3 situations are extremely different.
I am just counter-arguing what people say, with their arguments.

The thing is... I also think that Moderators do a good job in most cases, but "a player shouldn't be considered guilty if there's ANY SHADOW OF A DOUBT" is just a myth, and there are obviously more details and criteria about report-solving, than what is shown to us.
And the minority of cases they don't manage well, for me that stain is bigger (pessimism and personal opinion).

There have been a lot of shadows of a doubt who were simply ignored, even after explaining.

*there could be a function DISABLE CHAT - i would use that... i think exclusively by default, turning chats off in all games A-Z.
Or there could be other ways of chatting (group chat or I don't know), disabling game-chats in chat-independent games (I am aware that cooperation games need game chat).

Peace and love. 🍀❤️

1) If you win a game, or are about to win a game, happily typing out "Good game!" or "gg" is not appropriate. You're just being a jerk.

2) if you lose a game, it is gracious but not obligatory to congratulate your opponent with "Good game" or something similar. It's the equivalent of a handshake at the end of a chess match when you lost.
Hey, for what it's worth, I've played a few games with you over the past month, and I've always (I think?) said gg at the end of them, and regardless of the outcome of the game, it's just what I thought was a neutral way of saying "I had fun playing this game with you (or several yous)". I did not intend offense or to pour salt on a wound or whatever. I just did enjoy the game, as I enjoy almost all of them, because I am obligated to play primarily virtually because of life circumstances, like to acknowledge the humans at each end of the interaction, however briefly.

I mean, I just got beat 90 to 38 in 1v1 Beyond The Sun, which wasn't even a score or a score gap I thought possible, but it felt weird to me not to acknowledge how well my opponent had absolutely dominated not only their own strategy, but found time to cut mine off at the knees repeatedly. But I don't know how to say "I swear I mean it" other than to assume good faith unless someone shows me otherwise.

Having said all that, knowing that it does annoy some people, I will refrain from automatic greetings or congratulations or nominally self-congratulations in the future, because it's not worth it to me to antagonize other people unwittingly, so I'm glad you brought it up.
