Self-congratulation

Post by nandblock »

Once and for all:

1) If you win a game, or are about to win a game, happily typing out "Good game!" or "gg" is not appropriate. You're just being a jerk.

2) if you lose a game, it is gracious but not obligatory to congratulate your opponent with "Good game" or something similar. It's the equivalent of a handshake at the end of a chess match when you lost.

This is a misconception that "Good Game" refers to congratulations.

"Good Game" refers to an enjoyable match, whether you win or lose, does not matter. It means the time was well spent, the game went smooth, no mistakes were made, players all had a fair advantage(not that one constantly drew bad cards and was completely annihilated).

Saying good game - as a winner - compliments the other players they were a joy to play against, a worthy opponent and would love to play again someday.

Once and for all:-

Not everybody agrees on the correct use of the phrase (a simple search on the forum would tell you this). So stop whining about it!

If it's 10 to 0 and I win and say "gg", clearly I'm being a jerk...

if it's 10 to 9 and I barely won I meant "wow, close game, you played well, but I pulled it off, whew!"

Those are the gamers I'd like to play against more often; the ones that give me a challenge, the ones I may not always beat..., so, it was clearly a "good game"!

I'm sorry you've had some bad experiences

I won a game and it was really close. After the game ended my opponent said "Good Game." I then responded by saying "Thanks for the game!" Is there something wrong with this reply. My opponent got all upset and said I was rude. I always say "good game" if I lose and "Thanks for the game!" if I win. What is your opinion? I'm really confused.

That's a weird response from your opponent. Not rude at all, from my viewpoint.

I agree with someone who won 10-0 (or similar) saying "Good game" being kind of obnoxious, but only if they're not a close friend.

The important thing here is not to agree on the correct code but to realize that there is no "correct" code but only individuals who say what seems appropriate to them. Just approach your opponnent with a "they probably meant this in a friendly way" even if it's not the words you would've used and you'll be much happier in random encounters :).

Unless they say something offensive or clearly literally unfriendly (and no, neither gg / good game / tftg is that), they probably just saying what they think is friendly or at least what seems "the normal thing to do" for them without wanting to offend you. Especially for "gg" - that's a reflex-end-of-game-normal-phrase to many players. No need to judge (or worse: be unfriendly "back" to them) them just because it means something different to you.

Wow, it's that time of the month again :)))))))))
Similar posts, every now and then.
Someone should make a compilation, for our future generations.

Some reflexes need some paralysis, though... ;)

Some time ago, i was crushed in a game (when I say crushed, I mean crushed), and the player said "gg".

I didn't take that well, so my response was "No.", a thing which i quite often do.

Then his reply (his, 'cause he has the Mars symbol): "Who the beep do you think you are to tell me no? You beep of a beep, beep you, beep." :))))))

It was the harshest reaction to a "No." that i have seen in my entire beep life...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Thanks for the game, nice people of BGA" >>>>> "gg".
Bless.
:))))))

Oh and about that... This is out of context, but I want the BGA to change the blue color of the Mars symbol, on the profiles.
I have a serious issue with this.

From a mythological and astrological point of view, blue Mars is an insult, gender-unrelated.

Venus is ok to stay pink (or yellow), but Mars... RED.

I literally laughed out loud. This topic rears its head regularly. But it's Halloween later this month, so it's fitting that it's coming back again....like a zombie.
