Now I see dead games because the population is split between formats and the fact if you are not paying you can't play the "best and optimal" version. Back in the day, I remember the site taking donations... Why did they change that?
Most players likes to play the most popular games. So yeah, some games were played a lot and are less played now, just because some other games took their place. And in couple of years these games will be replaced by other more popular games again.
That's just the same as IRL board games.

True in a sense, but even volunteer developers get small rewards in the form of gift points. It's probably not in the same amount of work they put into it, but it's still a hibby for them.

The site admins however have this as an actual job, and are fulltime working on maintaining the site, both virtually(the site itself), physically(the servers) as financially.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's dead, but I've noticed a lot of issues lately. Lots of odd bugs, lag, disconnection issues and it definitely takes longer to find games than it used to, even as a premium member.

But even beyond that it's always been next to impossible to find tables for all but the most populer games. How many games does this platform have, maybe 600? It's all but impossible to find tables for more than ~20% of them though.

The only website I can use to play boardgames in real time, because of Motion Sickness.
And the website has a good mixture of look and usability.
Finding tables is maybe a problem, which occurs when more and more games are added to the site and the game is not so popular.
Maybe it needs a sorting algorithm putting games with waiting people at the top and maybe add the usual waiting time the last month as info...

You get a whole lot for free here, and obviously you've used that in over 3000 games so far. Many people work in their spare time to develop the site. I think these people deserve our thanks and appreciation. If you don't like the site anymore, you can always stop playing here.

That is definitely not my experience. Some of my favourite game list as only having some 60 - 100 games going on at a certain time (Battle of Lits, Dungeon Twister, ...). Yet I find games for them very easily.

Are you talking about turn-based or real-time? For the latter it's harder to find games, true. Most people just don't have the time to play that game mode.
