This site is dead.

Post by ABoyNamedGoo »

I'm just curious but does anyone else feel this way? I can't find games to play and when I do its always less than the total number of players the game has to offer.

Its sad because I've been a member since 2013 and coming back to the site it looks like everything is a "pay wall" to do anything. Seems worthless as other platforms are FAR better than this site as this site feels antiquated. If I need to pay in order to play games at this point, why does this site still not have some of the best board games from the last few years. Brass Birmingham, Le Havre, Terraforming Mars ex.

RIP BGA

Not sure what you are talking about. I find games very easily. Lots and lots of games get added, among them high quality games like Barrage. All games are accessible for free, although not being a premium member does come with some restrictions. I wouldn't call that 'everything is a pay wall though'. Certainly not with an annual membership as low as 30 euro per year. That's about half of the price I pay compared to buying a physical boardgame copy nowadays.

This post looks made specifically to garner a (negative) reaction.
I think the technical term is "troll"

Because you can't just snap your fingers and have them here.
The publisher must grant a licnese, then you need to have a volunteer(often) developer to program the game, then you need to go through testing.
But it all starts with the publisher of those games on which BGA has no influence at all.

How much have you contributed to this site seeing as you're a freeloader... appologies, typo, standard account user who doesn't contribute to the running costs of this site. Or have you developed any games as a volunteer?

Didn't know you could have such fun with a dead thing... I feel a bit weird now.

I have the impression that the number of users and games increased a lot during the pandemic, and once most confinements are over, the user base has decreased, leaving less popular games pretty much dead.

Some games may be dead, but others are thriving.

I just remember a ton of games having so many games open with people rushing to join. Now I see dead games because the population is split between formats and the fact if you are not paying you can't play the "best and optimal" version. Back in the day, I remember the site taking donations... Why did they change that?

Probably because back then they could keep the site up on the donations alone, but in the past years, costs have constantly gone up. Server load, keeping up with (financial) demands of publishers, constantly Orking towards expanding the games library...

People gotta eat, they don't work for free. Do you?

Maybe it's harder for the OP to find games to join because his karma is relatively low?
