[/quote]I don’t know if you’ve been to Memoir '44 tournaments in real life, but for those I’ve been to, the tables were only provided with the strictly necessary game components to play the scenario.

I've been to a few of the major tournaments in real life (including organizing one of my own) and really enjoy them!
Yes, both manners of counting are very similar and provide almost the same result.
The main point I was making is that different tournaments value figures killed different ways. Very important for some tournaments, such as elimination tournaments where a tie breaker is needed. Not so much for others, such as a Swiss Round tournament where players are guaranteed a number of games.
For an online game where a winner needs to be decided the figure count is fine for a tie breaker, but to be completely honest I'm not a huge fan of it. It's strictly an attritional statistic (which I understand played a huge part in battles). But it's dependent on dice. It doesn't reward the player who strategically took objectives, rotated weakened units to the rear for protection, or played his hand of poor cards exceedingly well.
That's why for tournament play, I prefer the Swiss Round system and giving bonuses for taking objective medals. The winner is generally the player who plays the best over the course of the scenarios and allows for an overly lucky or unlucky game to be somewhat cancelled out due to the number of games played. Figures never come into play as a tiebreaker as there are other calculations that can be made at that point.
But all this to say, I love Memoir and will play it no matter the tie breaker or no matter the tournament style! I'm thrilled with the implementation on BGA and look forward to lots of battles and lots of tournaments with many new players!
Good luck and have fun everyone, and see you on the battlefield regardless of what the tie breaker will be
