Medics & Mechanics

Post by Wiking44 »

I noticed that when playing Medics & Mechanics that the figure's destroyed does not change when you get back more figures due to playing the card..
Does anyone know if this is the correct way to play when counting figures killed when there is a tie..

Why would that change ? I dont see anything in the rules about that

Because you could (in theory) kill up to 7 figures from one unit. I think what Wiking is asking is if that's how it's counted - or if the count should actually "go down" when figures are brought back.

E.g.: Player A has killed 12 figures. Player B plays M&M to bring back 2 figures - should player A now only have a kill score of 10?

Something I never noticed before...great observation! The card says casualties are returned to battle rather than reinforcements being sent in, so yes, I think the count should be modified to count players removed from board for ties.

You can read the command card name and its text. This information is just as important as the rule.

Doctors treated the wounded men and mechanics repaired the damaged equipment.
This implies that the losses are not permanent, as long as the wounded men are treated and the damaged equipment repaired : they are not reinforcements.

In addition, during a real game, the medals result is completed by counting the figures of each side that are still on the board. This means that losses must be corrected when figures are added thanks to the card Medics & Mechanics. The added figures on the board thanks to this card can only come from the lost figures.

My two cents: for the past 11 years we have been counting the figures as kills for the attacking player. So yes you could get more figure kills from a unit. My opponent or I did destroy those figures. So I would prefer to (keep) count(ing) them as destroyed figures.

Personally I always refer to medicked or mechanicked trooops as zombies and tend to go for them more

Very good point!

Of the 4 games I played today, 3 ended up in ties of medals that needed to use figures as tie-breakers, and in these 3 games Medics & Mechanics was always used, so the way of accounting for it was decisive for the figures count and therefore for the game result!!

For the veterans, what is the official interpretation used in your tournaments? And what is the accounting method that is being right now here on BGA?

It is not a question here of knowing personal preferences, but of ensuring the mode of counting figures when the rules of the Memoir 44 tournaments provide for it.
As I mentioned before, the French tournament rules that I consulted plan to count the remaining figurines on the board.
So, if an infantry unit lost 2 figures, then recovered 2 figures with Medics & Mechanics, you get the same count with an unit which has suffered no loss.

I play in online tournaments for other C&C games. Where figure losses are used for a tie-break, restoring a figure decreases the lost figure count.
