You don't have a clock in your home games. As I type this I'm in a turn-based game with a player who is out of time, but not excessively so. I'm currently in 3rd place and doubt I'll win if the came plays to completion. I have chosen not to expel them and claim the tie for first place because I prefer to live in a world where people don't use the clock opportunistically merely because they can. The two other players in the game who are not out of time have also so far chosen not to expel that person. These are our personal choices. But that person is risking that I (or one of the other players) will expel them, and we'd be perfectly within site policies to do so. Some people use the clock on BGA to justify behavior that would get them ostracized over a real board. But because there is a clock on BGA and you now know these types of players exist, you have to conform to that reality.

Some adjustments include:
1) Playing slower time controls, even turn-based if the slowest real-time setting is still too fast to keep within time limits.
2) Only playing with people you actually know, not random people.

If you're opponent takes too long throughout the game, and runs out a lot, that's a different discussion.
I understand you are agreeing to the time limit, but this was for me to get the game moving along, I am not talking about tournament style.
If you know this game is lost, no one stops you to open another game, or just concede it (if those games like mine where obviously lost) .
Also, as mentioned in the original post, it's a heavy game and not Incan Gold or No Thanks, and we are not talking a 15 Min wait time here, I am sure that extra Minute or god forgive 2 minutes, the wait must be unbearable.

I am very surprised by those comments. I guess I am learning something here.
With ELO ranking all of BGA is one big tournament. If you want a friendly game like you would play with people irl, there's the "friendly mode" for that.

I, for one, am very reluctant to kick someone out for going over time. Like, I always ask and wait and give them another chance. In a recent game, dude went into the red on two separate occasions and I merely warned him not to do so again. And this was on a turn based game where you have PLENTY of time.

That said, I agree with those who say that speed games are just that. Speed games. I don't play them often because I don't want the stress of having to move quickly, but I totally understand those who say that's part of the rules and especially the one who questioned whether your opponent failed to maximize their points because they were concerned about their clock but you want the luxury of going over.

Again, if you were playing me, I wouldn't be hovering over the button, ready to kick you out. However, given that there's a few easy solutions for you to avoid this (either don't play speed games or just make sure you finish your turn and/or post something in chat), I don't see the massive issue.

Nobody broke any rules against you.

All very interesting points.
I still think that BGA was intended to be a way to play BOARD GAMES online with many new friends world wide.
The ELO didn't make it a tournament site. For me ELO's are a way to connect players of equal strength (maybe I am wrong with that too).
Trust me when we play live, we tell consistently slow players with AP off. I will also make my view known when playing here and someone is always going over the time limit. This post was not intended to talk about slow players, it was about players using this to claim a win when otherwise loosing ( especially in the last turn).
If speed is such an integral part of this site, BGA would kick you out automatically once over. They gave the PLAYERS the choice to do so.
Playing competitively with time as a strategy factor has its place here. It's called ARENA.
Again, good to hear the different views, after all that's what a discussion forum is for. I would still be sad if this is an accepted and it seems wanted way of winning games.

Likewise time settings are a way to connect players of equal patience and amount of free time.

Maybe the penalty for being booted shouldn't be more elo-reduction but instead a ban to play that time setting in that game for a while.

Is anyone actually reading the posts? It's not about patience. This was about THE LAST turn, after no time penalty was reached, to kick out players . ONLY to claim a win.

Are you seeking for comfort or do you want the site rules to change?

People are different. Some align with your ideas, others don't. People watching for friends or competition overlap in same spheres. Imo easiest to take as boundaries what the site allows. You can't force friendliness nor avoid unfriendliness. Best to shake it off.

So I wouldn't do something like that and we tell players in our league to not behave like that (but that is turn-based only so inherently different as thinking time is not the limiting factor there). But in a random RT match, better accept this might happen. Do what you can within what's in your control.

Good post.
Made me think, what did I actually want? Probably just hearing other peoples opinion, and to see if that bothers them as much as me.
Trust me I lost far more games than I have won. So it's not so much about losing the game. The Karma loss a bit more.
It was more that the other player got away with (yes you all made it clear, a perfectly legal move).
Coming to your question. I wasn't too sure what I wanted as a solution. Now after thinking about it, I think what would satisfy everyone is simply to show in the profile how often someone has kicked someone else out. Could be for legitimate reasons or just spite. That would give people like me the option to evaluate and decide if this was a player for me.
You don't know with the Karma either if the score was for a faulty internet line or for the player being just a constant quitter.
It at least has a consequence for the player pulling this move instead of only collecting an undeserved win.
Since a lot of people see this as an acceptable move, it should be no problem to have like 20 kick out on their name.

Many players join games with a fast playing speed but take a long time. I can't understand that at all. It would make sense to choose a game with a slow or very slow speed. Personally, I kick because I can't understand it. Besides, I don't play long games because of people like you and the time is way too long anyway. This is my opinion. BGA doesn't change the times so I don't play these games because I'll always get frustrated and that's not my goal

It isn't entirely clear you read and understood the original post. This is not someone who was timing out on every turn. It was on the very last turn of the game after which it would have been over.

It's still allowed to kick them regardless, but it is a false equivalence to claim the situation is the same as timing out every turn and justify the action on that basis.
