If you want your analogy, then you're saying it's best to just stand-up and walk out without even saying anything. That's even weirder. And that's what happens most of the games that end here on BGA.

And because people just leave without saying anything, some say their gg a bit early, before everyone has left.

I always thought 'gg' arose from online video games and meant you enjoyed the game and, more importantly, thanking everyone for not being a *, such as spawn killing, and not cheating, such as using aimbots. Strikes me as redundant in BGA as it's really hard to cheat and * behaviour (besides 'take that' moves intended by game design) is easily viewed in chat logs by moderators. I assumed people were writing it out of habit.

Imagine you were at an actual game table.

You're counting up final scores; and the person who wins (and is going to win) just stands up as the scores are being tabulated and says "Good game" and then walks away.

I'd be annoyed by that.

Then either your social skills or your ability to use analogy need some more work. It would be absurd for you to be upset at an opponent at the table if they congratulate/commiserate once the result is clear - it happens in 1000s of games every day all across the world. Some players even stop playing at that point.

And importantly what you describe is not what is happening. The opponent does not 'walk away' in this analogy - their relationship to the game is identical regardless of when they say 'gg'. The equivalent of the IRL behavior you describe would be a player on BGA typing 'gg' when it is clear they have won the game then going to the drop down and quitting the game - in which case you would then win, and I am pretty sure you have never seen that happen.

To be clear, if they said 'you've totally outplayed me - well done' and then hit concede that would be completely acceptable behaviour just as it is completely acceptable behaviour IRL.

Well, since that practice sticks it means most people don't see it that way.

Win or lose I’ll always post a quick ‘good game’ at the end. It’s just polite. Opponents who also post something, even as brief as ‘gg’, receive a green thumb. I’ll sometimes add more chat or if it’s been a close game or a weird/rare play happened I’ll maybe comment. For longer games I’ll also post a quick welcome greeting. It would seem impolite to sit down for a hour’s game and never even say hello or acknowledge the other person.
