I don't think I've ever had someone I've beaten say "gg" to me.
Only ever get it when I lose.
Feels like a taunt in my opinion, but that's just me.

It's cultural, but sports are not necessarily a good indicator: competitivity can play a great role in feeling a respectful word as a taunt. That's a nice cherry-picked counterexample, but I think it's uncontroversial that, among other reasons (such as health benefits, etc.), parents involve their children in sports to build character traits such as resiliency in the face of negative outcomes, e.g., losing. Now, that's totally alien to me, but the take exists, so whatever rude I feel the answer is, as long as it's not insulting (and that I'm in an OK mood), I won't take it too harshly.
