And last time I checked there were 6-9players with badge for reaching 500. So it's possible. I was at 497 once. Very close yet so far away.
I said it was tough, not impossible. When you're a newer player, you have a higher than average K factor, which affects how much ELO you get. I'm not sure how long this lasts for, but it does make it easier to climb the ranks with early wins. Later, when your K factor drops down, you tend to level out at your actual ELO (at least, this is my understanding of how ELO works). You were at 497 over 3 years ago, and since then, your ELO has remained pretty consistent around the 300-400 level. That's not to say it can't improve, but right now, that 300-400 range is an indicator of where your skill is at.

I could point to a similar trajectory in my own games - when I was first playing For Sale, I easily climbed to ELO 350 in a couple of months. 6 months later, I was down around the 200 level, and it's stayed pretty consistently there.

ELO is not a SCORE, it's a skill indicator. Skills can improve over time, but the simple act of winning a game doesn't necessarily indicate your skill has improved - it depends how easy it should have been for you to beat them. Even without the penalty, you would have only been getting 6 ELO, and less each time your ELO went up compared to the other player. You're not going to see huge gains anymore - I think even for players who reach high ELO levels (through developing skill, not through early K factor play) it's going to be a slow, incremental process, not something that happens in a 20-30 games.

K, the 'elasticity factor,' has a value that depends on the number of games you have played: 60 for your first 10 games, 40 between your 11th and 20th games, 20 for your 21st onwards.

The only work around is red thumb.
If you red thumb (private red thumb) the player you will not be paired with him anymore. If you go this way I suggest you keep track of the players
you red thumbed. After one month (may be two I am not sure) the counter resets and you have no penalty to play against those player so you can
remove the red-thumb. If after the match you inspect your elo change (just hoover the mouse on your rank) you will see wether and how much
you have been penalized so you can decide if you want to red thumb

Pretty sure that is not true - do you mean for this game specifically?

Yes, the current highest ELO for King of Tokyo was 516. Though now it's 525, so even players at the top can improve their rating. I'm well aware that higher ELO ratings exist for games where luck isn't such a factor, but King of Tokyo (being a dice game) is going to be a moderate highest rating.

I should be warned that there will be penalty. I cant remember every player and how many times i played against him.
I dont want to play against opponents like this its not worth it.
Hey I have some useful uncommon knowledge for you regarding how the consecutive win ELO gain penalty works. It doesn’t matter how many game in between, it’s based on how many consecutive wins against that player in the last 7 days (168 hours).

The bonus will diminish over the next week as it drops out the older games against that player. If you are going to play a lot of games and this still bothers you there’s the option of red thumbing the player to block them so you can’t queue into them. Just unblock them once 7 days has passed between your last game.

For support of the “7 day theory” check out my profile, Vale of Eternity versus BOTP with 6 or 7 games played. It has examples of the penalty building up, diminishing as old games drop off and then disappearing.

I'm not sure the period is 7 days, I think the suggestion was something like 30? This is discussed over on the 100 page thread, but I believe it was never officially confirmed, so everyone was guessing. But I think testing people did definitely suggested more than 7 days.

There are 7 games, you won all of them:

#1 https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=547090549 (2024-08-07) 353 vs 142: +4 (no hover for me)
#2 https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=601432506 (2024-12-13) 505.98 vs 163.36: +2.44
#3 https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=601966197 (2024-12-15) 514.5 vs 130.96: +1.93 (consecutive wins: 1)
#4 https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=602673512 (2024-12-16) 508.77 vs 116.68: +1.68 (consecutive wins: 2)
#5 https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=602685441 (2024-12-16) 510.45 vs 115: +1.4 (consecutive wins: 3)
#6 https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=605278803 (2024-12-23) 491.69 vs 174.63: +2.47 (consecutive wins: 2)
#7 https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=623677695 (2025-02-01) 587.34 vs 218.73: +2.14

The dates are of creation, but even the turn-based games didn't last more than one day. The run from #2 to #6 seems to support the 7-days theory, it looks like by the time of #6, #2 and #3 had been "forgotten".

Just curious. Jellby. How do you see the elo in hundredths? And glad to know now about this consecutive win penalty for playing same opponent and how it works. Thanks
