Introduce more filters with arena rankings then, for example 1500+, 1700+, 1900+ etc.
I thought that was what was originally meant by Thoth. Just seems sensible.

I wouldn’t wanna be playing random opponents rated 700 elo below me and just wasting my time being bored out of my mind in the least possible competitive fashion in something that’s supposed to be a “competitive” environment. That just strikes me as ridiculous. +/- 150-200 rating points, sure, that would seem reasonable.

Just because someone is 700 ELO points below you does not mean they‘re no competition for you. For all you know it might be a way better player than you that just has not played a lot here yet.

If they are 700 points below me and are my equal then it’s an extremely non competitive situation that encourages cheating by creating new smurf accounts to target and attack high rated players…

This is obviously bad. And as some one who experienced the absolute worst of this while rank 1 on steam for a good 6 months back in late 2019 and early 2020 I can say without question that it’s a wholly unappealing prospect. It’s not fun to have to play against people who cheat to attempt to knock you down the ladder.

Legitimate situations like this do arise where an experienced player is playing for the first time on a new platform, but those players will easily reach high elo in 50 games or so just by playing folks within their elo range as they play up, and yes this does cause issues of its own, but there’s no real way around that.

Here is my issue with Arena.

When I play game that has a severe imbalance for player 1 versus player 2, I like to play in pairs, meaning, I use the "rematch" feature to play again with player 1 swapped.

One my favorite games might be out of Beta soon, and available for Arena, but I will not be likely to play if I know I might just get smashed as playwer 2 without the option to rematch.

And I have no idea if "rematch" works in Arena. I assume not.

I hear you jaymc1130. I never consider ill intent. Good point.

I agree Arena filter could be beneficial either based on ELO or Arena rating. If filter is not going to be an option then introduce elite tiers. There is simply too large a difference in skill level between the top and bottom players in Elite. Same goes for Ark Nova btw. where people now regularly agree to abandon games due to enormous Arena rating differences.

We’ve discussed this before. I mentioned leagues.

1-200 league
200-400 league
400+ league

You should only be able to enter a single league per season and you need to be within range when you enter.

Maybe arena shouldn’t have an elo at all? IMO Elo should be reserved for normal ranked and nothing else.

Elo is a measure of your skill. Every non-friendly game should be taken into account for elo. That's the only way elo can have any meaning at all.

This doesn’t make sense when matches aren’t based around elo in arena or tournaments, given the variance. For example., I just lost to a 100 elo player in a tournament, on a non-draft Amazon map. It cost me 20 elo. Had I won I get a 1 elo. Given those settings, esp. non-draft, there is a lot of luck involved. Does that seem fair to you? This isn’t chess, it’s more like poker.

Now I need to win at least 4 HUs against similar elo to get that back, in a more controller environment, which will be harder.

Elo should only be affected in scenarios where the match is made around the elo, so you don’t have to deal with huge unfair discrepancies in tournaments and arena.

Agree even with the most restrictive filters my average arena game is vs a significantly weaker opponent than my average regular game
