While we're at it, could we get rid of the Visionary Leader and Bird feeder bonus cards? Drawing double-zero when I play a bonus card bird is frustrating.

I can't believe a designer with an alleged spreadsheet of detailed values thought it made sense for this worthless bird to cost 3 food.

I can't believe a designer with an alleged spreadsheet of detailed values thought it made sense for this worthless bird to cost 3 food.

I have saved games from this card. It's a bad card due to its price, but having a habitat mover can be so essential. It can make an opening hand able to do things, not necessarily great, but you can get into the game, and sometimes that's all you need.

I hate this stupid game.

It's a tiresome, tedious chore. Playing with these trash bird and no expansions after playing so many games with expansion and Oceania and Nectar is just excruciating.

I'm tired of trash hands and a useless bird feeder. OF a first round EOR goal that is "birds with ___ nest with egg____" and no matter what you do, you cannot get one and the opponent gets a free 4 points for having one egg on the California Condor. Of drawing card after card that is useless, and then finally getting a marginal card and the feeder DOIES NOT HAVE THE RIGHT FOOD.

Why do I freakin' bother? Some stupid ,meaningless desire to reach 500 ELo.

Not worth it.

Wingspan's Oceania has other problems. We'd see them all over if it were available: you are just as, if not even more, reliant on dice rolls (the absurd high value of nectar can make or break a game), plus every single action you put into eggs is basically a wasted action and in my experience a winner is a player who has alternative means of laying eggs.

That hasn't been my experience playing Oceania at all.

But, yes, you are correct that taking a break from the game was a good idea since I was clearly getting overly agitated about the dice rolls and random card draws.

It hasn't been your experience that re-rolling 5 dice and getting 0 nectar can be a game-losing moment, or that taking an action to lay 2 eggs, instead of just getting them for free outside your turn is a wasted turn? I issued a challenge to someone who swears that Oceania is the best thing since sliced bread. The challenge is simple: win a game without a bird that allows you to lay eggs passively. Just re-draw the card when you get one, or whatever. It happened once in more than 10 games. That to me speaks volumes about the way Oceania works.

Correct, this has not been my experience.

1) Yes, rerolling and not getting the desired food can be a problem. But at least with Nectar involved, I'm less likely to have a bird feeder situation where I simply cannot even take the gain food action at all because it would be a total waste given that the feeder has rat-cherry-fish and I need worm and grain. With 6 food types, and 3 of the 6 dice having a slash, I find disaster rolls to be less common.

2) I do not, and never have, understood this supposed issue with the weakened grassland habitat in Oceania. The same problem occurs without the Oceania board - In fact, during a recent run of frustrating games (here on BGA without Oceania), I was constantly egg-poor and had to take pathetically weak egg-laying actions just to be able to play more birds. With Oceania (which by default I assume to include EE as well), I find it less necessary to rely on my grassland because there are more options for doing things in different ways.

You want to lose a game before it even started? Because that is what happens when your opponent got wood duck and he knows how to use it. I actually prefer to have a fair challenge and so do most players. If you want to play a game which is based on pure luck, wingspan is not the game for you.

Regarding the trash birds i first though you where making a joke calling the fly catcher, but it seems like you are serious.... There are dozens of cards worse then that one, especially for your starting hand. I would not even call it a bad card, just a average card.

Not to brag but just to point out i understand the game pretty well: i am 700 elo and got 2nd place on arena 2 times, so i know what i am talking about.
