Well that depends. I tend to use all of my allotted time, but I rarely go under zero, and I generally make it far into tournaments. So I tend to make drag on the elimination tournaments I'm in. If it's multiplayer elimination, the slow players get bounced in the first round or two and then everyone can play.
I don't know how other people do it. Personally I like having a few days of rest after I qualify for the next stage. It feels more like a world cup sort of thing that way.
