My tournament is "paused" after Step 1 and I don't know how to "unblock" it

Post by jatubio »

Hi!

I checked my tournament (https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=513792) and it looks like all the battles of the 1 Step have been mades(swiss system), but the 2º step is not running yet.

What can I do? Please, some help, hahaha.

Even though this game https://boardgamearena.com/14/kingoftok ... =788348577 is "finished" in the sense that a player has been expelled, the game isn't over because all the other players have not left it yet. So it won't end until they all leave or the round time runs out. So it could just sit there for 10 more days.

It's not blocked. There is one game still running, because a player hasn't started playing yet.

The games started 20 days ago and you set the maximum game duration to 30 days, so you will have to wait 10 days for that game to automatically end, if it's not finished playing before then.

Edit: Just realized a player has been kicked out. Sometimes there seems to be a bug where players can't leave a game in this situation. Or maybe there is one player who doesn't want to leave because they just realized they caused their own loss by kicking the other player. Sort of a poetic justice.

Thank you very much!

I didn't realized that. We will have to wait for 10 more days for continue, what a pity!

You will not have to wait if you message the other players and tell them to quit the game because it's already over. Strident has already left. Gekko and FuzzyDice have not.

This is why I prefer multiplayer elimination to swiss. You're going to have a slow player in every single round of your tournament! If a player is kicked for time, they aren't necessarily also kicked from the tournament!

If it's multiplayer elimination, the slow players get bounced in the first round or two and then everyone can play.

I think there's an active proposal that if you time out of a Swiss tournament like this (not even making a single move) that you get involuntarily withdrawn from the tournament. That would clear out the worst offenders.

There's a huge backlog of "should be implemented" tournament features. In the meantime, I'm only playing single elimination and multiplayer elimination, to avoid the "slow players ruin tournament" problem.

There should be a setting to automatically kick anyone who times out in a swiss tournament. If you lose a game via timeout, you probably aren't wining the tournament anyway.

There also should be an option to block people who timed out of 1 or 3 tournament games in the past 30 or 90 days, from joining your tournaments. 1 or 3 timeouts, depending on how generous you feel. 30 or 90 days, so that people have a chance for redemption.

I definitely need this option. It's really a small handful of repeat offenders who cause most of the problems.
