My two cents: for the past 11 years we have been counting the figures as kills for the attacking player. So yes you could get more figure kills from a unit. My opponent or I did destroy those figures. So I would prefer to (keep) count(ing) them as destroyed figures.
Personally I always refer to medicked or mechanicked trooops as zombies and tend to go for them more
It is not a question here of knowing personal preferences, but of ensuring the mode of counting figures when the rules of the Memoir 44 tournaments provide for it.
As I mentioned before, the French tournament rules that I consulted plan to count the remaining figurines on the board.
So, if an infantry unit lost 2 figures, then recovered 2 figures with Medics & Mechanics, you get the same count with an unit which has suffered no loss.
You keep saying tournaments, but I only know of the French Open that does that. Memoir online (and thus the tournaments there) count destroyed figures (no subtraction if medicked, mechanicked or oasised). On Vassal also the same: destroyed figures nu subtraction for healed units.
Dutch Open and Belgium Open do not count figures any more.
Alas I cannot say for the numerous other tournaments in France as I have not visited them. But plenty of players here have and can tell us.

My main thought here is was the figures killed count programed on DoW and now here on BGA to not subtract figures brought back by M&M, Oasis, Hospitals done on purpose or was this just an oversight..
My guess it was an oversight since it does not follow what I think the card says

We were told to count number of figures killed, so we just increase this number by one for each killed unit. Never the topic of recovered/healed figures was brought up by publisher or M44 experts we were working with, and this was not considered as a bug on the online, so we havent even consider it. Seeing the mixed reactions on this, it's unlikely to change atm.

At the end of the day, it's the publisher who has the final say. Honestly, I don't think I ever had even thought about it until this post and M&M saying "casualties returned". Thanks for the reasoned response and for letting us discuss. Feel free to close out my suggestion in the bugs page!

I personally think the reason the French Open counts the figures remaining is because it is easier to check at the end of the game by a referee.
PS: if you escape units through an exit it is custom to put not just 1 figure of that unit on your track, nut all the figures that escape. That way you counted those too. (Someone made a remark about that somewhere.)

Currently stance of publisher is : "meh, just pick the one that is easier to implement for you".

Days of Wonder do have a practical approach to a lot of things
Has anyone tried to contact Richard Borg about it?
Maybe he has an opinion?

There was some discussion on the old forums and think Rasmussen was checking into it but never heard of any outcome.
If we follow what the card says the mechanics fixed the original damaged tanks and they are thrown back into the battle
But yeah, would like to know what RB has to say about it

The card states the mechanics of its use.
The card doesn't state how the figures are to be counted in a match.
The figures have been destroyed, returned and can be destroyed a second time.
BGA M44 reports the total number of figures destroyed for each category.
It matters not if destroyed figures are subsequently restored and put back in the game.
They were destroyed.
Time to get over it people and move on.
