It helps me to think about it like this:

Every 3 months, a winner is crowned.
Then, all of the statistics are reset and everyone starts back at the beginning.
EXCEPT, those who advanced to the highest levels in the previous season are given a boost to start the new season as a reward for their success.
Everyone still has to play games to win an advance in the new season, but last season's top performers are given a head start.

The arena season pages have a new look but there is no mention of this.

You are missing how many players there are which was listed in the previous view. Also the amount of games played is squashed in so much that it's hard to see compared to how many people are each ranking. Very visually messy, Maybe space them out.

Also was there any reason to make past seasons go to the left now when they have already been going to the right?

The main play now page for arena also no longer shows how many days are left in the season.

It just seems obvious that who ever makes changes doesn't actually use the parts of the site they are changing.

Does anyone have an easy way to check the arena settings for games that don't have 100 elo in? I would be interested in some games arena format that I have not yet played enough on this site. Eg knowing what the player count is

On the second page of this thread I wrote instructions for getting to the Arena page even for games you've never played. It's up to you to judge whether it's "easy."

Clearly NO ! The modus of BGA's arena is the best solution for me.
With traditional league, we can't up easily i think. Or only every 3 monthes. It's too long !

4gub6hcs4g wrote: 17 April 2026, 08:10 I am new to BGA and am struggling to understand a system whereby you are constantly promoted but never relegated, apart from at the end of the season. This is different to league systems I have encountered previously. I was hoping other forum users might be friendly, welcoming, tolerant and patient. Clearly this was not a hope I should have entertained.
1) Welcome to BGA. This is a great site! Try out your favorite games, and enjoy. :)
2) The Arena system here is not perfect, but it doesn't need to be. For starters, no group of people will ever have the same ideas of what "perfect" means. It also voluntary. You can play Elo ranked games completely outside the Arena. I do this for most of my games.
3) Each new 3-month arena season here has everyone start with a fresh clean slate, if there are 3 tiers or fewer. If there are 4 or more tiers, players in the top tier(s) will start one or two leagues up from the bottom, but will still need to advance several leagues to get back to Elite. I think it's fine. At the start of each season, all players need to earn their way upward, and new players have a chance to do the same thing.
4) What other league systems are you referring to, and why would you expect BGA to operate the same way? In pro sports, each season every team starts with a 0-0 record and has the same path and requirements to reach the championship game at the end of the season. The Dodgers won the World series last year, but they still started this year with an 0-0 record. You make it sound as though the teams that make the playoffs one year get to start in the major leagues and the other teams get relegated to the minor leagues.
5) The good players in each game make their way to the top of the arena leaderboard each season. What's the problem, exactly? What are you proposing, exactly?
6) Most people here are friendly and welcoming. If you feel as though people in this thread were not, perhaps your own tone and demeanor was a factor.
Thanks for your perfect answer. I like really the first ! Welcome at all new players on BGA indeed !

Season 25 game settings bug: Expeditions Around the World arena game page says 2 players but the system is filling arena games with 3 players. This was a very unwelcome surprise.

Hi! I'm not sure where to suggest this, but I think it would be nice on WingSpan in the Arena if there was a graded scale on win points - such that if a person wins by 1 point they get less win points, and if they win with a lot of points they get more win points. Same with loss. If you lose by one points, it doesn't impact your score as much as if you lose by several points.

There are almost no systems, anywhere, that work like this. Like, look at sports, from professional leagues down to beer leagues, a win is a win. Nobody says “you beat X by 2 and they beat X by 5 so they are better than you”. No, it’s all about the wins and the losses; in the long run nobody cares if it was a nail-biter or a blowout.

And think about how this would affect gameplay, the behaviours it would encourage, by favoring drubbings over small wins. I’m not sure I’m in favor of this idea at all.

As someone who has been a guru, it's a truly ridiculous system. I don't know what the fix is but having the same people pick the settings over and over is very tiring and kills games over time.
