Oh, I see the confusion. I'm talking about tournament games. I mostly play those, and in the cases where I played turn based Arena, I've never gone out of time (probably because like you say, those games give you more time each turn, making it significantly harder to end up running out of time).

In a tournament game, once you go out of time, you will stay out of time for the rest of the game. So it's like being constantly on the edge.

I find it very unlikely that you would happen to hit that "sweet spot" by randomly checking frequently, unless you basically keep the table open and watch it live.
Like I said, checking the profile itself every couple of minutes or so will give you good odds of being present at the time they log on and make their move. And as you observe them making their move, you can start thinking about how you are gonna respond to it, so that you can be ready to make your move in a few seconds the moment your turn starts.

That sounds rather stressful πŸ˜…. Don’t tournaments have the option for no kicking now anyway?

They do, but if a tournament is of interest to me, I'm not gonna not subscribe just because kicking is enabled.

It can certainly be stressful, though those cases have been very rare fortunately. But I tend to stress even when my clock runs low, which tends to happen a lot, since I'm both lazy and indecisive, not a good combo when you need to get things done in time.

At the same time, I want to win and won't let some opponent end a game on me, especially if it's a game I should clearly be winning. So if they are planning to kick me out, they better prepare for me to be on the ready.
